What does it mean when someone didn't attend the funeral of someone?

I'm sure you had your reasons for not going. There have been relatives of mine who passed away and i didn't attend for the simple fact i don't get along w my family and extended family. My extended family and my immediate family is extremely toxic

Unfortunately that's how a lot of family members are especially the older generations. The boomers were abused by their parents and their parents before them were abused so they carry that mental trauma down through the generations passing it on and they don't care who gets inflicted with their distorted warped view of life

If they do not attend, I would assume they are busy or somebody in the family does not want them there, because my experience is that even people who don't care about the dead person go to avoid the social drama that would appear if you did not attend a funeral of somebody you know. When my grandma died, my aunt's brother attended the funeral even though I do not believe he ever met her, he was trying to offer support to his brother in law, who had lost his mother. My cousins husband also attended, they flew over short notice, and he had a corporate job where it was hard to arrange something like that.

Could be a lot of reasons. I hate to say it but could be they didn't get along well. Another reason could be if they weren't that close and they wanted to allow others that were closer to the person to attend. (Due to various restrictions that have been or may be put in place.) Could also be that they wanted to remember the person as they were and not what they have turned into. I'm sure there are a lot of other reasons also that I can't think of.

i did attend to my family funeral I never go to my cousin and my grandma funeral i didn’t visit my side of my family i was too busy with school and work i never talked to my side of my family they live at Iowa i just don’t want to go there I move to Virginia cause the job

I can only speak for myself but if I didn’t attend it was either:
1- I am so upset about it that attending would hurt more.
2- I don’t wanna be around my family but will morn the person in my own way.

I didn't attend an old high school friends funeral because I had an important Drs appointment I couldn't reschedule and I was uncomfortable with it being open casket. (She was crushed by a vehicle)

It doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but it’s not generally a very good look. Depending on the reason you didn’t go, people might think y’all weren’t very close or even had some personal conflict with the deceased.
