1.4K opinions shared on Other topic. Nope. The thought disgusts me. (I'm well aware of the hypocrisy that the stuff we eat and drink often comes from animals, but I need a lot of distance between them.) My family went through extreme economic hardship for a time when I was a teenager, and we were given cow milk from a family we knew. It was so fresh, the cream rose to the top in the large glass jars it was given to us in. It was thick and strange to me. (I always preferred 1% milkfat.) And since then I've seen tons of documentaries showing farm milking stations and that also grosses me out, the production of it, but mostly how dirty their nipples are.

Small duel purpose cow. Lower milk yield than say a Jersey but eat less. Popular on smaller farms.

Yes. My aunt and uncle had a big herd of cattle. I spent several summers on their ranch fixing fences, tending to cattle and mowing and bailing hay. My aunt also had some dairy cows which were milked daily, but every morning before breakfast got to milk one of the dairy cows for a pitcher of milk. Raw fresh milk was better tasting than store bought milk.

+1 yMany years ago, I was one of the parents on an elementary school trip to a farm that included one of my kids. One of the "demonstrations" was milking a cow, and parents were invited to give it a try. I id, but wasn't very good at it.
