In USA, are females in their 20s not called girls?

That’s subjective, but some women get REAL touchy when you call them “girls”. Probably the ones who are most insecure about their age, experience and womanhood, as one might expect. Ell oh ell! So i try to just use “women” for those who’ve achieved the age of majority, unless i have some insight as to their maturity level. Some people never seem to grow up and they don’t necessarily deserve the built-in respect of terms like “men” and “women”.

I used to use the term 'girls' very broadly.

I now tend to use terms like young ladies, ladies, gals, or women for females 18 or older.

More woman. Depends how it’s said. “Girls night out” is a way to slip it through. Directly, it’s more respect to say woman by that age.
