Men have been using "female" to refer to women for a long time. Even after being told it's not correct grammar. It's so degrading. Imagine if women did it to men... "Why did this male smile at me and look away". It sounds wrong right?

I also dislike when people refer to grown women and "girls" and no it's not in a "gals" kinda way, they just use girls and women interchangeably which is less common with men and boys.

Never heard of "not being allowed" to say girls or women anywhere. Woman/women is fine, girl/girls is fine, lady/ladies is fine, Miss/Mrs./Ms. is fine. "Female/females" is best left for forms (check M or F).

I don't find "lady" offensive at all, I just prefer not to use it because that's what it means to me. To ME, it's insulting to them. It probably ISN'T, to THEM but, it is, to me. If I'm on stage and addressing a room full of people, "Ladies and gentlemen" is perfectly fine. I don''t picture al the women as old women in that condition. It's just a general term. But, I'll never walk up to a table of girls or young women and address them as "ladies".
