If you just mean for this planet I'd probably go with solar. There is a startup called Ambri that seems to have cracked the long term grid storage issues. And it's still really in its infancy - look how far LED lighting came in the last 15 years once people started taking it seriously, for example.

But it would be cool to develop a "closest to source" system. For example if you have wind power, that spinning energy is stored in a flywheel and an arrangement of gears through a house uses that energy directly. Like if you have a ceiling fan it will always check the flywheel first before using electricity. Or sunlight redirected with mirrors before being stored in a battery..

many have been working on it all around the world, and trying to really make it work at a more reliable process and if they succeed, well, for practical purposes, humanity could actually have "infinite" energy available to be controlled, it is so promising that even Russia and Europe are still working on it together, despite the ongoing war over Ukraine
