If you signed a contractual agreement and are showing intentions of violating said contract then your Boss has some grounds for dismissing and searching for a replacement. I prefer to have it much more clear than a maybe. I would hire another like you with your skill set and then lay you off.-This is a much safer way for a "small company" to negotiate you violating the owner trust.

If you live in a "right to work" state such as Texas, no reason whatsoever is required to terminate your employment... absolutely none... funny how they call that "right to work"

If you're lower level or service industry, then it's no biggy.

But if you're specialist or niche, and under contract, then yes.
