Do electric showers heat the water or does it come from the boiler?

In my garage I have a tankless hot water system that runs on gas & electric. As for an electric shower heating coils would heat the water in a system like this.

I've used electric shower heads that heat up the water as it hits the shower head. Remarkably fast and scary. We were all afraid of getting electrocuted every time someone took a shower. But it worked. Scary AF though.
