Electric showers, I dunno if I'm being dumb but mine doesn't work and I don't know if that's a me fault or not?

Do any of you have an electric shower and if so how do you work them?

I've pressed and held the on button I've checked the boiler and there's no shower switches, the water looks as though it's on with the drew stop flow switch thing (don't know the proper word for it). There's a random switch in the hallway which I have no idea what's it for but didn't seem to do anything with the shower and can't think of anything else that could be the problem.

Then it's not a electric shower it's a electric water heater. Well first of all what is the results? Do you get cold water?

But then it'll be an elective water heated shower so much easier to just put electric shower, didn't realise people would think I'd have electric water lol and absolutely nothing the taps get both hot and cold the shower nothing, which is why I tried the screw in the pipes but it was super stiff and didn't want to turn 🤷‍♀️

So you got no water? Well then the water is cut of so it's either the shower or something before the shower. If you got external pipes it's just follow them and see if there is a cut off in the wrong position. It's certainly isn't anything electric, since you got water working elsewhere.

I'm not too sure gunna have more of a look later. Normally showers like these though has an led on/off button and I can't see any sign of that either so not too sure

I've never heard of such a thing! That sounds quite dangerous! What's wrong with just a regular shower?

It is a regular shower, the water is heated up via electric rather than gas as the place I have is electric only

@FunkyMonkee Are you kidding that you have never heard of an electric water heater? Many homes do not have gas service and it can be expensive to bring gas to the house. Electric heaters are safer. Point of use (instant demand) heaters are located at each place they are needed and must be small to fit there, so there are basically no point of use gas heaters, just electric. Electric heaters are safer and need no pilot light which may go out.

@Red_Arrow No, never. I've never lived in rural/wooded areas. There's always been gas lines. Now that I think of it, grandma used to have a p[ace out in the woods that was built about 80 years ago and even IT had gas!! The main road was at least a mile long and, there were only 4 houses on it until the early `70's when a new guy moved in next door with a trailer. On the other side of us was a tiny shack that rarely ever (IF ever) got used, half a mile down the road from us was the Landis's and there was another place just beyond them across from an old saw mill. That was it

I've never lived in a rural area, this is an urban area, but it's a place from the 60s and they couldn't be bothered to wire the electricity inside the wall let alone instal gas, although the landlord is considering it atm

Maybe the just couldn't afford it.
I don't know if this goes where you are but, here, if you don't finish building a house, you don't have to pay taxes on it so, maybe that's why they never did that back then.
The house I'm ion, now, was built in `62 and has had gas and electric from day 1.

They can afford it trust me, it just costs them money so they don't. Hell, according to the energy servicing reports they gave me, upon moving in, it doesn't even have good attic insulation and that's one of the cheapest things ever. But because it's the people who have to deal with the prices of drafts, increasing utilities etc and not them they don't give a damn.

Haven't really got a choice, they got a saving cap, where they can take money away from you, if they catch you and it's not declared and it's over 6k. A couple years back the council took 24k off this pensioner, because instead of spending her money she saved it - had she spent it they wouldn't have cared, but because she saved it, they said she owed them money and then took everything off of her.

Comparing the costs of digging a deep trench for a gas line to putting up a few utility poles and the cost of running a gas line is ridiculous. Plus the utility poles can also be used for phone lines and tv and internet cables. Plus the cost of digging a section to connect another house to a gas line is much more expensive than simply adding an electric line drop. Most remote homes do not feel the need for an expensive gas line. Plus, a gas leak can be expensiive to find and to fix (and may required an evacuation near it) while a broken wire is accesible and easy to replace. (And the electrons do not leak and require an evacuation.)

Umm... 6k is no where near enough for a deposit - I would need about 15-30k for a 10% deposit and if I get caught saving that money it gets taken no questions asked and secondly, atm that's about the same as my current wages

Funny thing is though the private properties around mine probably, actually more than likely has gas. It's the first place I've been in without gas. I like the idea of having a gas cooker and a microwavable oven so if you have a gas cut or and electric cut you can still cook things

Yep an electric water heated shower, which is why I just put, electric shower.

It isn't called an electric shower lol. Your heating element for all your water is electric if it isn't gas. Not just for your shower

Yes I know that, I have an electric boiler of course the taps are also heated by electricity. I wrote electric shower as if I'd just shower, everyone including myself would just assume it's heated by gas, ergo it's easier to put electric shower. I didn't realise people would be so confused by putting those two words together.

What is more likely? You think that saying electric shower is common terminology and are wrong or that everyone that is confused by it/ are correcting you are wrong?

If I had just written a shower the assumption would be its heat is generated by gas rather than electric, because it's really rare to have an electric only home without gas, or external in case of a fireplace, but then again that's rare too. And since I was specifically asking about an electric shower or a shower that's powered via electricity, that's what I put. You wouldn't normally put an electric hairdryer but if someone did you'd still know that's a hairdryer powered via electricity. Same with a gas cooker, electric cooker or wood burner cooker still all the same thing.

Still all this is just terminology, which is probably why there's a bit of confusion - especially with people who think chips comes in little foil bags 😜 lol sorry if I came off a bit stiff earlier.

I don't know where you live but electric heating is almost as common as gas. There is only about 10% more gas users in America (for heating). No need to be sorry. This forum is for discussion and I was just trying to point something out so you know how you are coming across. Sometimes it's hard to tell how you come across without others input.

Amen, halfway writing that message I was like my god I'm coming across pretentious, I'm normally a lot more chilled. As for the difference only being 10% more, I honestly cannot comment on that, all I know is my own experiences; I've lived in about 13 different homes, and visited/stayed at a further 10 for 1-3 months at a time and they've all been combi homes with gas heating. So to me having just electric is weird.
