Does anyone here know a lot about mushrooms?

About 6 years ago, the walls of the basement started leaking during the rain and the basement was slightly flooded (about 1/16") but, we had a couple of carpet samples on the floor near the work table that got soaked. A couple days later, I went down to get something and found one of these rugs (about 10" x 14") had what looked like 1" wide egg noodles on it and I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out where these noodles came from!! I went to clean them up only to find out that they were actually mushrooms growing on this rug sample!! They were completely flat and looked like whitish rectangular noodles that were slightly curled on one end! They were maybe 1/8" thick, about 2" long, if flattened out, and the stems they were growing on top of were only about half an inch tall! I doubt there was even a dozen of them. I didn't know what the hell they were or what to do with them so, I just took the entire sample out back to let it dry off in the sun! The next day,. they'd completely vanished!!

I know they shouldn't be growing in a basement. You should get a dehumidifier or two and turn them on in the basement to remove any moisture in the air.

I know but, like I said, the rain kinda flooded the basement. And, at the moment, it's nothing I have to worry about, anymore because, thanks to my ex-sisters, I don't live there anymore.

Best example I can give is to have you go to the store and but a bag of 1" wide egg noodles. Cook them. Put one on your plate. That's pretty much what they looked like.

Oh I have seen them before. I found them growing in my basement as well.

But when you take a photo of them with slow speed black & white film and with 60mm maco lens

The results are awesome

Mushrooms Growing in Basement Carpet

If you have a problem with mushrooms coming up from the carpet, then this is a sign that you have a mold problem growing underneath the carpet. This is caused because the carpet is damp or wet, or at least it was at one time. A leak or high humidity levels in the air could cause the carpet to become damp.

Sometimes mushrooms might not sprout up in a visible area of the carpet, but rather under a couch or behind a bookcase. So you might not even know that you have a problem. If you notice a musty odor in the air, this could be a sign that there is mold present.

In most cases, you should peel back the carpet from the floor and completely remove that carpet to avoid further mold problems down the road. Once the carpet is removed, you can then work at properly cleaning the mold on the floor.

Depending on why the carpet got wet in the first place, you might also have a problem with mold behind baseboards and drywall.

Most of the time, it's WHEN you use a dehumidifier that the place gets very musty smelling!!
