I've been told that it's more a phase than a personality type and girls are usually over it by their mid teens, how true do you think this is?
And also, where can I find more of them a bit closer to my age?
I am both. I love make up, pretty girlie clothes, being feminine and sexy, romantic movies, dancing, cooking, being sweet and sensitive, blah blah blah...
But.. I also love, hiking barefoot in the woods with a hunting knife like a a cave man... not killing animals but maybe collecting wood for a fire and camping out... I love surfing, skating, skiing, I have a unnatural skill with climbing trees and climbing rocks and agility on my feet (jumping from rock to rock in rivers) I love to swim and I love getting dirty, I feel like I was suppose to be born a couple thousand years ago when people lived in tribes and hunted and gathered food. Speaking of I love growing food and foraging wild food... I also love working on cars, building things shooting guns, rough housing with friends... doing back flips and always trying to push my physical abilities and working out and building muscle... I hate shopping, TV, gossiping, being emotional starting drama... I rather be out in nature and have no worries at all.. I am always the one hanging out with the guys, I do have female friends but they are just like me, not quite as dislike, but that's why I don't hang out with them too often. If you're going to find a tomboy know that they like manly men and not just an act... go out there and do the things you love and their be there... at the gun shop, at the beach... not sun bathing but out in the water or all dirty and sandy playing with her dog... remember that tomboys clean up nice, don't expect them to look hot right away, honestly they could be anywhere, especially if they are crazy and active like me... o yea I also love to mountain bike.. so go check out some trails!
Tomboy, here. Glad to know we're appreciated! Ha, kidding. I knew that already ;p I've been lucky to date several amazing men who embrace me as I am and enjoy my lack of makeup and similar interests. The "just a phase" comment is one that all parents try to tell others (and convince themselves and their tomboyish offspring) so they'll get over it. In truth, it depends on the person. In my case, I am in my 30s and still very much a tomboy, I don't ever think I'll be a girl who wears skirts or dresses (when you see tomboyish women in the professional world, you can often recognize them from the pants and long-sleeve dress shirts and jackets they tend to wear to the office. Don't worry, we exist even in older age and some people gals never "feminize", several people are just happy as they are and know there is nothing wrong with that and embrace it. As for where you can meet tomboys - that is a good question. We aren't a cult-like people, so we exist in the same places anyone else does. The good news is you usually know us when you see us, so you shouldn't have a hard time identifying tomboys around you or online. Good luck! I also wanted to say that, just because some women are tomboyish, it doesn't mean we think we are guys or want to be treated like one, so if you do find a special tomboy in your life, remember that she appreciates thoughtfulness and sweet gestures as much as any other type of girl. I still appreciate flowers, chocolate, mix tapes, or any kind thing a boyfriend does to make me feel cared about ! :)
Well I am here to tell you that any "true" Tomboy does not grow out of it! I have always been one, and when I met my first match I had become a C-17 Contractor in the '80's and to this day... I am still looking for a good piece of glass! My Glass Shop is run by my ex and eldest son, although I am beginning to feel the ways of the 'Femme'. I just turned 50 and the thought of not being 'soft' scares me! I will always claim that a hammer is the best tool and one I can fix anything with, but now I feel I need and want the SOFTER things in life. I want to be told I am beautiful and could be your anything. I have hung-up the overalls and put the Redwings to rest... I want to be a lady that no man can resist... It is inside of me and I am so full of passion that my heart cannot resist. I am tired of claiming: "I am the window man!" . I want to live out the rest of my days (just turned 50) being a lady, of which I have training and is the way I was was raised. So much for the rebelious youth of the '70's? I know better now and want to slink into a more senuious role of mother of adult children, but I can tell you this, I will never grow up! I just want to do it with more finesse! Here's looking at you. We are out there! Come seek and find us! OXOX.
Lol I find myself liking the tomboys who are still very girlie too. Best way is gaming, sports, clubs like book club, game club, activities that actually matters like environmental clubs and sometime the library :P
I live in Oklahoma, and it seems like every girl I find is a tomboy. I think that is common in the southwest.
I live in Oklahoma and I see a lot of girls who are girlie girls. I am a bit of a "tomboy" I'm not lesbian or anything of that nature. I still like to do girlie things. I think you are kinda right with this one. It is a little more common in the southwest. I think its because we still get out and do things like fishing and other outdoor stuff in the southwest.
On my way to your location lol

I think I'm kind of a tomboy. I'm into a lot of sports and I'm pretty athletic. I love cars. I like some video games (not all). I can even burp on cue haha. But I can't really dress like one for work and I work a lot, so I don't usually look like your typical tomboy. So I think you just gotta look behind the facade that society makes a lot of us girls wear. You're probably sitting right next to one right now an you don't even know it ha! And not to be funny or anything, but if you're into tomboys are you sure that doesn't mean you're not into boys? I'm not saying you are, or that there's anything wrong with that, I've just always wondered that.
I’m 20 & I don’t think that I’m going to outgrow being a tomboy. While I’m not an extreme tomboy (I still wear dresses & heels), on the weekends you can usually find with a four-wheeler, go-cart, or gun close by. I usually hang out at drag races, car/truck shows, fairs etc. so you could try looking there. Also if you are in college and see a girl with a flock of guys behind her then 4/5 times she’s a tomboy – we don’t like the drama of prissy girls & tend to hangout more with the guys. Good luck!
Don't forget about the huge range of women that fit in between prissy and tomboy. I am not a tomboy nor a priss. I don't care for drama and hanging with "mean" girls, so I keep to my family and the men in my life for the most part. Also, there are plenty of things that women do that are not tomboyish but send grown men running. Changing diapers, having babies, scrubbing toilets and washing your families dirty undies is hardly glamorous, even if I am wearing heels while doing it, lol.
Even girls past their teens retain a little of the "tomboy" elements. It's just camouflaged under a ladylike veneer as they mature into professional women. (Ever heard of the illustrious Soccer Mom? That chick's usually more into the game than her kids, lol.) You'll see a lot of women "fall back" into that mode once they're dating/married and watching the Super Bowl with their guy while enjoying their beer and nachos. Other former tomboys try to keep some semblance of a "ladylike" temperament because it's expected of them in general, but still let loose every once in a while when they're with close friends.
all girls have a tom-boyish charm to them. it's just some girls flaunt their tom boyish personality all the time while some girls like to keep it hidden. I'm one of those girls that keeps it hidden but I bring it out when it's appropriate. I kinda find this embarassing but I know everything there is to know about major league baseball. everything. like not even kidding. my friends say it's unatural that I know this much. and I play sports everyday. it's just some like to have it out and be who they are which I respect you girls completely. and some like me like to keep it hidden for reasons that they have.
I don't think that they change usually after mid teens. I think the more grown up they become, the more professional and grown up looking they want to look. So of course they're not going to wear t-shirts to work unless they can. I'd think that you could find a tomboy somewhere that has a laid back setting such as a bar or a place that has anything to do with a nature sport such as fishing.
It's not a phase, maybe in some cases but not all the time. I'm 23 and I'm still a tomboy. I don't dress like a guy or anything but I have more in common with guys than girls usually. And I have a personality that's more guy-friendly than girl-friendly.
Maybe some girls go through a phase like that, but there are those that take tom boyish traits into adulthood. For example they can have a very masculine energy and even have trouble being feminine toward a guy. If you're looking for more girls like this you could try going to a gay club. A lot of straight girls actually go there...and if you don't find any tom boys that are straight you could always try bi. (: good luck!
Ive been a tomboy since my first barbie doll, wheni bit her head off and constantly played basketball and soccer with the guys at recess. even til this day I would prefer to do guy stuff than to be one of those stuck up girlie girls. I'm a freshmen in college now. I've been a tomboy all my life.
I was raised by 5 sailor turned trucker uncles and my sailor/trucker grandfather. I'm a tomboy by blood, no end in sight. Most of my friends are tomboys and pretty awesome chicks too because I can't stand the prissy high maintenance 'girlie girls'. You just gotta look for them and not be afraid of a girl that could kick your ass.
i can be a tomboy but I also enjoy girlie stuff. I love fishing, climbing trees and horse riding but I also love shopping, chick flicks and make up etc. I think girls grow out of showing it to everyone but it is still in most of us somewhere, you just need to get us in the right environment for it too show
Playing rec league sports, walking her (big) dog, working out at the gym, attending ballgames, coaching, hiking/biking/canoeing/etc. Or, gaming for that matter, if you are thinking of that kind of tomboy. I know tons of straight girls who are tomboys ... They usually clean their look up a bit, but are still casual.
I don't really know many girls who are tomboyish alllll the time...but, me and other girls I know have a tomboy kind of side to us. Like, I enjoy being tough and getting dirty doing 'guy stuff' or being sporty, etc. but other times, I enjoy doing more girlie things and occasionally dressing up.
As for where? Depends on what stuff you enjoy doing...look out for girls that are hanging around some of the guyish things you are attending/do.
I don't see it as a phase. I know some grown-up tomboys. Now, to be fair, some of them are not just tomboys but also lesbians. Others are gals who can dress up and do the girlie girl deal but overall they are more sporty.
yes, most girls aren't tomboys past 14 or so. The ones who stay tomboys are lesbians by the time they're your age, unless they are French or Chinese, then the tomboys are just as hetero as they can be even at your age!
jrotc or rotc or a military college of some kind, theyre not the stereotype that some people think, the butch mangirls, there are a lot of cute and some hot girls who do the military thing, and obviously they don't mind getting a little dirty
After high school tomboys are usually either lesbians or frumpy less attractive girls. If you're envisioning a fantasy hot tomboy girl...uh good luck lol
You have a point, but I do know some cute tomboys that are not lesbians. However, older women I know, in their 40's, well they tend to fit more into the frumpy category. They are not going to hide the grey, use botox, worry about skincare or spend time at the gym. They also could care less about updating their clothes. It just isn't a priority. I work with someone who loves her mom jeans and tennis shoes. It's all good.
I am a tomboy, I have always been one and I will never change. I know people who are in there 30s who are tomboys. So I don't think its really a phase it just depends on the person. And it is how you are raise. Like since I was 5 I was always with my dad, fixing the transport and helping arund the yard, Also I have a lot of boy cousins so I chill with them. And I have a lot of guy friends more then girlfriends. so it all depends how that girl is really.
Maybe educational institutions and the running track...deffinitly not "da club", the hair/nail salon or "out shopping"
they're pretty cool, but there's nothing wrong with girlie girls unless they're Super-superficial (snaps fingers in a z formation)
I don't think it's necessarily a phase.
Perhaps you just like a girl who is into doing exciting things that you do?
Tomboy here! :) and proud of it!
Coed Sports leagues and gyms.
I'm older than you and I still don't mind getting dirty and muddy! but I clean up nicely too :)
I'm a tomboy. :D Always was. I have scars to prove it. :P
@moloz - You really have to stop stalking me. :P
Girls are usually over it lastely by the end of high school. If not, they're lesbians. Unless you're a pedophile, you'll get over this phase.
aren't "bro hoes" the same as tomboys? I've realized a lot of the really hot American p*rn stars seem to be that way, but anyway I can't say I'm into them only but they are a bit less intimidating to be around
Well, I think the problem is that often tomboys start... ya know... going after other tomboys...
I've been a tomboy since i was little and I'm 16 now and I'm still a tomboy I don't believe its a phase i think its a personality trait
Get a guy to wear a wig?
The gym is a good place and coed sports leagues
try a feminist convention
love a tomboy myself !
