Can you tell when someone is telling you lies, or is it harder for you to figure this?

All these people who think they know actually don't know because that's just what you have decided to believe is what's happening.

In reality the only lies that you know are lies are ones in which you called them out on it and there was a whole thing about it leading to some kind of proof or admission.

All the other times when you thought someone was lying but there was never any proof one way or the other you have no idea what the truth is.

In anycase just because someone is telling the truth that doesn't mean they are right, you can earnestly repeat someone elses lie at which point it is not a lie anymore, its just wrong.

It can sometimes even work the other way where a person lies about something but are also wrong about it and the lie they told is actually correct and therefore true from the perspective of reality, though the speaker is still a liar.

Whether or not something is a lie is dependent on the intention and knowledge of the speaker.

If someone tells me something that I don't think is true my goto explanation is not that they are lying to me it's that they are a moron. I just accept that they don't know better than that, I don't take anyones word for anything and if I do I take responsibility for having done that, so it really doesn't matter if someone is lying to me or not, if I am wrong it's always my fault.

I will say this though, in many of the lies that I have heard which I know are lies, the speaker tells the truth so that is something you can investigate.

For example: This car has great bodywork for the year.

The bodywork is fucked and if its fucked it doesn't matter how old it is because if its fucked, you don't want it.

So while the substance of what was said is a lie the truth is in the subject and they pointed it out to you, so listen to them.

The long and the short of it is that you don't know when you don't know something and none of these people here telling us that they know when someone is lying have any idea that they were lied to all the times that they didn't notice nor do they know that they were wrong all the times they believed someone was lying when they weren't.

When you take responsibility for your choices and actions it no longer matters if others are lying.

There are hints. If they can't look you in the eye is one. If they're fidgety that's one. If they blink a lot that's sus. If their voice is too quivery that's one.

That's one kind. On the flip side, if they stare into my eyes way too long, are rigid, and their voice is way too rigid then that's another.

There are essentially 2 types of liars: ones that aren't any good (because they aren't aware of body language) and ones that are aware of it and try to overcompensate.

I get a sense that something is odd. It is never useful to accuse somebody of lying because if they are they will deny it and if they aren't they will deny it. I find it better to bring up what they have told me at odd intervals.

A liar can't resist enhancing the lie. If they are telling the truth the details are unchanged.

Overall you are better off knowing someone lies - particularly a partner - then to try to badger them into confession cause that is not going to happen.

Sometimes people have tells that shows if they are lying. I had a boss that used to call me by my first name when he was lying. Once I figured that out I could always tell.

I watch for the shifty-eye lie. If they keep eye contact, it's usually the truth.
