Yes quite easy: ask all the people in the world to explain a highly complex physic problem to you e. g. quantum mechanic (can be any other hard to explain phenomena). The majority will get it wrong.

Of course they can, especially if they're watching mainstream media. I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but people are so gullible nowadays that whatever they see on TV they believe.
