No. That's not safe. I have a holster near the bed, which also holds a very powerful flashlight and a couple of pairs of zip tie handcuffs.

Like many towns in California, mine has a serious crime problem, and much of it is drug-related, and a significant amount of that is cartel-related. In my very middle-class neighborhood, we've had several home invasions and several grow houses that have caught fire just in 2022, and 100 times that city-wide. Several home invasions were clearly to the wrong address - criminals looking for money and/or a grow operation that didn't exist at that location. And our governor has emptied out 3 entire prisons of criminals, most of whom are violent, and is working on a fourth.

I'm simply prepared for the unexpected.

After my 3 years in Rhode Island I'm probably going to be back to California after my wife's retirement. It's a place I don't want to go to and I'm really fighting to at least live on the border in Nevada or Arizona. I mean my guns are a problem in California and I hear I can't even do something like build a mancave in the backyard. They have so many rules you can't just do what you want there.

No. That would be uncomfortable and dangerous. My double stack 9mm is locked and loaded and within arms reach, and there is a semi-auto 12 gauge loaded with alternating deer slugs and 00 buckshot very nearby.

I live in a very, very safe area, though, so about the last thing I am worried about is a home invasion.

I usually keep it under the mattress or next to the bed hidden under something like a random towel. I pretty much barricade the place before I try to sleep so that any noise will wake me up. I'm a cat burglar's worse nightmare. And if it's some home invasion stuff... I have a 12 gauge with buckshot under the bed and an AR-15 for backup. They will be fucked.

I also keep two handguns... one for each hand. My Walther P-22 is for the left hand and my 9mm Glock for the right. I would opt to just nip the bastard with the P-22 but if it's a fucking mover their getting a magazine dump of 22lr and 9mm. Both with laser pointers and flashlights... the storb light stuff. I'm not fucking around when I'm out to kill.

That seems a bit dangerous to me. I don't have a gun but I have a 3ft long pipe under the bed just in case some dude comes piling through the door a 3am. There's also a short but wicked sharp serrated knife in the night table drawer. Is this a guy thing? Do women make sure they're heavily armed before they go to bed? Interesting.

In UK guns are much more tightly controlled and its not the norm to own them. If I were able to, I would have one in the house. Not loose under my pillow though. Not with two toddlers in house
