That could work. I’m not very fluent though. I can probably speak Latin right now about as well as a 5 year old can speak English, and my grammar needs some work, but I practice reading it and listening to it spoken daily, and truth be told I speak to my dog in Latin just to get practice speaking it.

I love the traditional Latin mass! That’s awesome. They should have never gotten rid of the Tridentine Mass. They should have kept it and offered masses in the common tongue, but offered the Latin Mass weekly. That’s awesome your church does that.

The Nicene Creed sounds particularly awesome in Latin.

Some of it I’m sure you can understand due to the form of the mass and various prayers and responses being used at the same places in the mass.

For example:

Signum crucis: In nomine Patri et Filli and Spiritus Sancti - the sign of the cross

Or

Angus Dei,

Quitollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

Angus Dei,

Quitollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

Angus Dei,

Quitollis peccatta mundi, dona nobis pacem.

Meaning:

Lamb of God,

you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us (x2).

Lamb of God,

You take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

During the Latin mass, does the priest give the homily in Latin also?

No, he does not. And yes, I do know those parts. In fact, I have prayed the Rosary in Latin since about 2016.

Trying to remember which prayers make up the Rosary. Our Father, Hail Mary, and Act of Contrition right?

Apostles' Creed, Our Father, three Hail Marys, and a Glory Be.

Then each decade consists of an Our Father, ten Hail Marys, a Glory Be, and what is called the Fatima Prayer ("O My Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy Mercy.").

It ends with the Salve Regina, an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be for the pope. It could end there, but there are some additional prayers I add.

I do the Guardian Angel prayer, then the Saint Michael prayer, then a special Saint Joseph prayer. I end with the Memorare and a litany of saints for my intention for that Rosary.

Wow! I didn’t realize there were so many prayers when praying the Rosary. That seems like quite a task. How long does it take you to do it?

In Latin, probably about 25 minutes. In English, it depends on the intentions I mention and the litany. In that case, usually about 20... ish minutes, give or take.

I was trying yo learn Attic Greek for a bit but then life got in the way. Latin is a life goal though.

Greek is tough. Especially because you have to learn a different alphabet to be able to read and write it.

I plan to learn Koine Greek when I’m done with Latin. That will be several years from now though.

At least with Latin, you don’t have to learn another alphabet, and even when reading and writing Latin from the classical period there are only a few minor changes. Since the classical Roman period there have been the addition of like 3 letters and the letter “V” is no longer used for both “V” and “U”. Obviously the only other major change is numbers as ours come from Arabic.

I read Latin. I have never had opportunity to speak it—and I am sure I am not fast enough (nor fluent enough) for a verbal conversation.

I would struggle even more with Greek. I only read ancient Greek, and I seldom pronounce it aloud. I would find those participles particularly difficult.

I am glad you are not hampered by the barbarous English pronunciation. I think you would really have trouble finding someone to talk to.

It depends on the religion. Christianity has, though real, true biblical Christianity does not and should not.
