Is dark skin color dominant over light skin or not?

I find it fascinated with all the combinations available in our genetic makers. Mixed kids are interesting.

This has me wondering because I've seen some cases of the babies that still ended up light skinned with pinkish glow or pale white despite having a parent with a dark complexion. So is dark skin really dominant over light skin or not? Or are both just as dominant?

Melanin is said to be a dominant phenotype and all-white skin genes are recessive but yet some babies come out still being white so that can be kind of confusing.

Yeah but genetics are fun. Back in 2010, two Nigerian parents as dark as possible gave birth to a pale skinned blonde hair blue eyed child. Yeah I've heard of that Nigerian couple before. They likely carried a white recessive gene from some way in the past. That's the interesting part. Even if that's an ancestor that died long, long ago that you don't even recognize them in your family; it only takes that one remaining gene you have to activiate, that one gene out of the many combinations.

I think that mixed kids more likely to look non-white, but if they lucky then they can look white.

I'm assuming it also depends on whether the parent with the dark complexion was actually mixed themselves or carried that white recessive gene too. For instance a full Native American or black isn't without any white ancestry isn't the same as a Native American or black that already had a white grandmother or great-great grandparent, just that they appear dark but the white gene is there.

Yea the none-white parent might be a white gene carrier, from a white ancestor.

Well my daughters are biracial and came out very light and their mother is dark skinned but I’m white so I guess I dominated that time but they do get really dark when tanning

Perhaps I could be wrong but I think it seems more possible to have light skinned children when the father is the light skinned parent and the mother is the one with the dark complexion than vice versa. Genes are so random. Out of many possible combinations, the marker selects one and that's how the baby will come out.

Well in my case since I’m so white my kids came out really light but their mom is dark

I have no idea. But dark skinned women look more sexy than pale , at least to me.
