If you have a dog, do you ever feed it scraps from what you've eaten?

No. It’s definitely not something I would do (I have had family members give scraps to their dogs though). First, human food is not especially good for dogs and once you start giving them scraps, You will never have peace again while eating.

It potentially trains them to be beggars depending on when / how you would give them the scraps.

Give them the scraps (IN their bowl, AS their mea) l WHILE you're eating and they'll be too busy eating their own to bother you with yours and, besides, YOU'RE the master so YOU tell them not to beg at the table! Most often, the dog would just lie near the table to wait for any scraps, they almost NEVER begged!
If part of the scraps are nice big bone, give that to them and they'll go into the next room and spend YOUR dinner time chewing on it!

I get the master thing…. I have no issues controlling my dogs walking off leash, next to me while multiple, miscellaneous distractions occur. I also don’t have begging dogs at my house for multiple reasons. It is more of an observation of dogs behaviors when visiting other homes (and my childhood dogs) after feeding them at the table occurs.
I do agree, if you are going to feed them scrap, putting in their bowl would be the best way to do it. They would be less likely to associate everyone sitting at the table with them getting people food.
Ultimately it’s your dog (s) and it seems to work for you. So, to each their own. Personally it’s not something I would do or recommend to anyone who asked.

The most my dogs would do, as far as begging, is either sit beside you and put a paw on your leg or, rest their chin on your leg and look up at you with sad eyes. They'd NEVER jump up on you and try to take stuff off the table, they knew their place was on the floor!

Exactly!! How can PROCESSED dog food be good for dogs when processed people food is BAD for us?
And, I'm not even talking about giving these dog processed food!! I cooked a ham and wanted to give the scraps to a dog! How is ham processed?

No, I don't have a dog but I would never do that. I usually don't have scraps left in my plate, I like eating way too much to leave anything. Also I take amount of food depending upon how much I can eat.

Very rarely. If he gets anything it’s a piece of fat or too tough to chew meat. But my dogs are raw fed so they think anytime the freezer or fridge opens it’s for them

Meat/proteins and certain bones, yes, nothing else though like pasta etc. I feed a partial raw diet already to both my dogs.

Yep, my parents fed their dog all kinds of scraps and she lived till she was 18 years old and in good shape up until then.

Same here!! All of mine lived to at least 16! People for ain't gonna hurt them! If any of it bothers them, you just figure out which one it is and then stop giving it to them.

I have 2 dogs and they never get scraps. The only food they get other than dry dog food is the occasional baby carrot or apple slice.

Why? They're dogs! As long as it's something they'll eat, there's no problem with giving it to them. I don''t understand people who think they can ONLY have dog food. Before we domesticated them, they'd kill something they wanted to eat and gobble it right down!! There was nobody there telling them they CAN'T do that and then feeding them Purina Dog Chow thousands of years ago!

Right. They ate FRESH meat. Not hamburgers or price processed hot dogs. Our food is killing us and it gives our pets cancer too.

Never harmed any of mine! I've had at least 10 dogs in my life and every one of them got scraps AND CANDY and lived to be at least 16 years old. My family ate the same stuff and they all lived well into their 80's and 90's! At least one came within weeks of 100 but, had her stupid ass kids NOT put her in a nursing home, I'm pretty sure she'd still be alive today, 6 years later!!

Yep. And they were all very good dogs, too! Well, Gina was a bit wild but that's partly because she came from a VERY abusive master! We got her from the pound and she wouldn't even sit still for me to put my hand out for her to smell for the first few weeks, or so! She liked me but, if I put my hand out for her to smell it, she thought it was there to hit her! So, she'd duck away. Eventually, she loosened up and fell madly in love with me! I'd go to see my girlfriend and I couldn't get near her for the first 10 or 15 minutes because Gina was running circles around me and barking her praises!!
When Gina died, she was replaced with another but much smaller dog, Nikki, who also fell madly in love with me! She'd also raise a big fuss over me when I came over and, if I sat down for any length of time, she would excitedly run up to me, wrap her arms around my leg and hump it like a boy dog!! Quite often, she'd leave a wet spot on my pants!! I told my girlfriend that I wish I could get women to do that!
My own dogs were in love with me, too. If I went out front to sit on the top step of the porch, someone inside would eventually let the dog out and she'd happily run right up to me, shove her nose under my right arm, push her way through so my arm was draped over her like she was my girlfriend and then plop her ass down on the porch directly beside my and lean into me so hard she'd nearly push me over!!
You girls have NO idea what you're missing! The dogs know! Most often, they take one look at me and they KNOW I'm someone they can have a great time with!!

I used to feed my cats table scraps all the time. I used to come home for lunch sometimes and cook a burger for myself on the gas grill and I would cook one for my cats.

It never hurt any of my dogs. A guy I used to work with said that chocolate is like poison to dogs. Couldn't prove it by me!! By the time I heard him say that, I'd been feeding my dogs chocolate for decades and it never harmed any of them! same with people food. It's GOTTA be better than processed dog food!
