Do you think it’s weird for people in a first world country who are basically middle class to not have a dryer?

When I was visiting my friend in Sweden, I was shocked that they have a washer in their house and not a dryer. I would find that incredibly annoying when it comes to towels and sheets. Plus underwear and socks don’t feel fluffy if they haven’t been dried.

When I was a boy, a lot of people did not have clothes dryers. We used clotheslines and hung up clothes on them. It was fine. In fact, given all the sun we have here, I'd like to build a good clothesline for hanging up duvets and blankets and such. In the bright sunshine, they get dried quicker than in the dryer... and it's free.

My wife has a lot of wool clothes for camping, so we do have several drying racks for the wool.

We rarely have here in Japan as well. Sometimes I think the metrics related to economies are screwed up when I visit the US and visit a poor couple's home who is around ten times bigger than mine with a sofa, huge television, speakers, driers, dishwashing machine, etc.

The husband worked at K-Mart and wife at movie theater selling tickets and their home was so huge. I think even in rural parts of Japan, you'd have to be millionaire to own such a big space. In Tokyo, maybe a billionaire. But they call Japan developed nation, but we live in cramped spaces mostly, even those of us doing reasonably well, and hang our clothes outside to dry, and might have never experienced the convenience of a dishwater.

I have a clothes dryer and I hang my clothes overnight to dry. Put them on for 10 mins to fluff, but sometimes I just fold and put them away.

I grew up in a house that had no dryer. Instead, we had a clothesline in the back yard that air dried everything.
