Base it off of personality. And I don’t always stick to the list with my current dog none of the names fit him. But they’re sorted based on breeds and genders

2 dogs currently. I had cats and dogs growing up, a multitude of fish (unnamed) 3 hamsters, 2 Guinea pigs, a snake and a bearded dragon

Incidentally 90% of those animals came from reputable breeders. All but the fish but I didn’t pick them lol they were the communal pets and my one dog. I don’t support pet stores that sell live animals unless they’re supporting the local rescues.

It would be but it would also be supporting those who have bred them. Like the puppy mills and kitten mills that are typically found there or the breeders that provide inadequate enclosures for their reptiles using rack or bin systems for snakes and keeping an adult dragon in a 20gallon tank with zero enrichment or room to move around.

So leaving them in the stores isn't worse than buying them? I would think it is, if they already bred them then why leave them in stores, those animals aren't to blame, leaving them without a home simply cause people decided to use them for money seems just as messed up if not worse no? I understand not wanting to pay the people but after all they still find homes tho don't they?

Buying them incentivizes the breeders and the store owners to get more. If people want to get their pets and reptiles from the pet stores they’re welcome to but I’m not encouraging them to continue the cycle by supporting their business. There’s also genetic issues say the puppies at a petstore that came from a mill, if I’m spending $2-3k on a dog I expect it to be well bred, I expect it to be genetic disease free because that is a lot of money to dump on a genetic disaster.

Others that don’t understand the process will still purchase them, just not me. They’re the ones that continue the cycle. But there are some pet stores that support rescues like petsmart but they’re still garbage for their aquatics, avians, reptiles and rodents.

It depends on what I want. My one dog is a shelter mutt, but my next is coming from a reputable breeder because I want them for a specific reason or job. Just haven’t decided on breed order yet. But I’m also happy to rescue an animal, so if I were to find a snake that needs a good home I’d take it, I’m just not going to a petstore to specifically purchase an animal

Yup I know, it just doesn’t line up with my moral code. So to purchase an animal from a store that supports poor breeding practices isn’t something that I want any part of.

Just because I won’t purchase an animal from a pet store doesn’t mean others aren’t free to, and there are plenty of people that get animals from pet stores and give them amazing lives I’m just selective with how and what I spend my money on.

I believe you could indirectly curse somebody by giving them a name that others who have had unhappy lives have used so I want to avoid a name that unhappy people I know have used. I also want to avoid a masculine name to avoid making the kid arrogant or a name that would cause bullying by other kids.
