Do you have any local mermaids?

Question

Our local mermaid was captured in 1789 by a fishermen who released it. As a thank you she swam up a few days of later and warned about an approaching storm. Records from the time show he turned back to port while those boats that didn't all perished with the loss of 27 lives. She was reported to be blonde so that rules out Ariel.

But do you have any mermaids, real or legend where you live?

One cool thing about North Carolina was the Blackbeard was executed here. Also, there were lots of shipwrecks and it's called 'The Graveyard of the Atlantic.' One time I was asleep with the window open on the Outer Banks. I turned my head in bed and saw a ghostly pirate ship in the sea -- swear to God. But, sadly, no mermaid tales. Honestly I think mermaids were invented by pirates. They got lonely at sea and one pirate says to the other, "Wouldn't it be cool if fish had bazookas?"

I’m not familiar with too many folk stories where I live caused I was raised by immigrants in a country where my parents were not native to the soil but I watch miracle stories on YouTube when I want encouragement. Of course, I know you still have to work and dreaming is not enough to solve problems or earn money or meet people, but I believe the mermaid story might have some semblance of truth, such as a drunken dream God sent to save his life, or a hallucination etc…
