It's probably the oil industry thats preventing it's come back. I reckon once oil runs out we'll start farming them.
I am totally against hunting & killing whales.
The Moby Dick story from the 19th Century was interesting no doubt. And the whale oil was a necessity.
But killing whales for the sake of killing whales. I agree on you there.
No. Why kill something so grand and majestic just because you're too cheap to buy kerosene?

No, that era sucked.
Why? I saw the films and read that book. It seemed pretty badass.
Poaching was rampent, life was harsh, lifespans were short, aging was fast, medical care was way crappier than it is today, television didn't exist, telephones didn't exist, the internet didn't exist, computers didn't exist, electric stoves didn't exist, electric heat didn't exist, cars spewed out toxic black smoke, most people were stupid af (even moreso than today by a lot), religion was more common, and general quality of life was just overall much worse than today.
Also moby dick is a fictional tale, so it may not be time period accurate.
All this is the 19th century?
Moby Dick was written in 1851. All those life quality improvements did not happen until later.
No, it was always wrong
The Japanese are whaling? How sad…
No not at all. And it still goes on
