Feminism went off the rails starting from the second wave in the 60s when it began to assume that males and females are behaviorally identical absent social conditioning (endocrinology, anyone?) and that gender is merely a social construct.

But the reason it went off the rails and of even greater significance is that it views all inequalities in outcome as the result of a Marxist-like oppressor vs. oppression conflict theory narrative, which is also bogus, but that's why it needs to see men and women as practically identical absent social conditioning since the patriarchal oppression narrative falls apart if it were to acknowledge that men and women are not the same.

Feminism desperately needs to start acknowledging the very biological, endocrinological, historical, economic, and psychological reality that there are fundamental differences between men and women that can't be explained from the lens of sociology.

The most hardcore feminists of this ideology will genuinely claim that it's only social conditioning that cause female athletes to perform worse than male athletes. They extrapolate incorrectly from mathematics where it has been shown that eradicating the stereotype that women are poor at math has actually appeared to have caused them to improve at math.

If we go by this view though that it's only stereotypes psychologically preventing women and people of color from excelling, then the worst thing we can do as teachers is teach ideas like white privilege and male privilege, since the only expected outcome is to hold people back in the same way that the historical stereotype that women are bad at math held gifted female mathematicians back.

I can't help it so much. It offends my sense of academic integrity as one who took my academic studies very seriously. But also a big part I care about it is that I think it is largely the explanation for why many American black communities have fallen into a state of disarray with rampant crime, gang activity, substance abuse, single-parent households, and so forth.

There's nothing I think is crueler to teach than a bright young black boy or girl that everything that's wrong with their life is the result of white people.

It's easy to blame the media for the divisive tactics but I think it originates in academia and with deep roots in Marxism. Marx saw a rather simplistic dichotomy between oppressor and oppressed with proletariat vs. bourgeoisie and capitalism as the institution to maintain this class conflict and system of oppression (along with marriage, by the way, Marxists are strongly anti-marriage since they view marriage as the ultimate institution which maintains this oppression through inheritance of wealth).

The type of feminist ideology that has infected our academia, media, and politics today adapted this ideology starting the concept that the male is the oppressor (the metaphorical bourgeoisie), the female is the oppressed (the metaphorical proletariat), and that patriarchy (the metaphor of capitalism) is the system which maintains this oppression.

That's also where the term, "woke" comes from: it's not a right-wing term. It originates in Marxist ideology dating back to the Black Panthers. Marx believed that one day the proletariat will naturally arrive at a class consciousness to overthrow the patriarchy. With feminism, it's the same idea but to overthrow the patriarchy and its subsets of male privilege, white privilege, capitalism, and so forth.

The media and politicians lap this all up to divide us, but it largely originated in schools: in collegiate level sociology and women/gender studies.

We don't have such divisive media here in Japan though and I think because we're largely centrist here. I think a large part of the extreme divisive gap between Democrat and Republican in the US largely originates in this specific and most popular brand of intersectional feminist ideology (which includes concepts like critical race theory and social constructionist views of gender) almost all across the board in sociology, as well as sometimes bleeding these concepts into K-12 education.

When I was young and living in the US, the biggest divide was usually religion. It's like Christian fundamentalists want to ban rock music or video games believing it influences children in a bad way and wanting to teach Intelligent Design as an alternative hypothesis in biology. Yet it wasn't nearly as divisive as what I'm seeing now, since no one could lose their job over just stating that the earth is flat in the same way they can now if they merely state that transathletes have an unfair advantage in women's sports.
