Need help how can I kill a rat stuck in a trap?

I was playing around with rat traps trying to catch a squirrel. Instead, it caught a pretty fat rat that is still alive. Im scared it might bite me how can i kill it without it biting me? Or do i just let it suffer until it dies?

I sprayed some wd-40, rodent replellant, bug spray and he is still alive. I really don't want to be messy and kill it with a hammer.

Take the whole trap out into the woods.


Dump cooking oil, such as vegetable oil, onto the rat and leave.


It will free itself within an hour and won’t be your problem anymore.


Don’t trap things you’re not willing to kill or set free.

Hold the neck firmly between your fingers and pull sharply on the body to dislocate the neck.
Or tap on head with a wood stick, no need to use a lot of force

But how? they carry disease im not gonna use a hammer and have blood splatter on me. If anything i guess i might have to use my big shovel and start whacking, it but i will have to disinfect the shovel afterwards somehow. The good news is he seems weak looks like the wd-40 is doing it's trick. Hopefully he dies and then i can use some gloves and get rid of it.

That's not how disease works with them. It's the fleas. So the longer it lives, the longer you're at risk. Get the fuck over the blood. Just put the trap on a bag, and stomp it. Mess contained, rat dead and no longer being tortured.

I finally killed it. Took 3 whacks with the shovel that was one big rat lol the largest i ever trapped. After the first whack he screamed i kinda of felt bad but i finished it off.

Im saving that for last because i really don't want to be messy. I sprayed it with wd-40, bug spray, and rodent repellant hopefully it dies in the next hour or two but i need more ideas that are not messy.
