Not me personally, but my older brother got into some trouble when he was 18 or so. Him and a friend were drunk and caught trying to break into community mailboxes and taking street signs off posts. I can't remember the exact sentence he was given, but the judge said either probation and community service, or enlist in the military and the record would be expunged after a year of commitment. He chose the military, and now 17 years later, after receiving an education and learning to fly, he's a pilot flying fighter jets.
When I was 18, I got sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours of community service. For community service, I did Meals on Wheels and it turned out to be really good for me.
The probation wasn't much. I don't even remember having to go in and see the probation officer. I probably did at least a few of times. I just can't recall.
Fortunately, after my sentence was completed, I was able to get my record expunged. So there is no longer any record. Nothing was digitized back then.
I have not, never been arrested for anything.
