A question for Native Americans, can nonnatives participate in orange shirt day in September?

My life career has recently changed into the field of education/child development, and along with this I am leaning very quickly of all the child remembrance dates related to children and the newest I learned was Orange Shirt Day in September. Honoring in remembering native children who were wrongfully treated by early America. And being in the field of child education and care, I would love to acknowledge it this year now that I'm aware of it.

But I also want to make sure I am not cultural appropriating the wonderful Native couture, and want to ask those whom are Native if it is OK or lack there of, for a nonnative to celebrate by wearing orange on Sept 30th.

I'm not First Nations, but I'm from Canada where it originated. And yes, anyone can participate, but make sure you buy your shirt from an official, Canadian source of Every Child Matters.

There's a lot of knockoffs that DON'T bring your money back to the programs the event supports. Don't buy on Amazon, for example, or from Etsy.

The Native Americans I know would welcome non-Native Americans to participate, just as the civil rights movement of the 50s, 60s and 70s welcomed non-African Americans as brothers and sisters.

I have worked with out local Native American tribe in helping to promote their events and raise their profile in the community. The tribal Chairman even invited me to sit at the table with their elders at one of their ceremonies and honored me by calling me one of the elders.

I'm north of Sacramento now. We just had a pleasant break from summer with cooler weather and a bit of overnight and morning rain.

Ah, I've been to Joshua Tree many times. It's magical. I grew up and spent the first 46 years of my life in the south bay part of L. A. county. My sister still lives there. She said she got quite a bit of rain, but that's it. I heard of other places that got hit pretty hard. The 10 freeway was a mess.
