Americans, Do you still follow your ancestors' national day?

As you know, we've just had St Patrick's Day, and people all around the world with Irish ancestry celebrated with a few drinks and Irish food. Back in January, we had Burns night and those with Scottish ancestry toast the haggis around the world. Of course we've just had Chinese New year with Chinese festivals everywhere.

Of course many of those celebrating around the world won't be recent migrants, the blood would be well diluted but they'll still tell you their 10% Irish as they down their seventh pint.

So Americans, since you're all immigrants, how many of you still celebrate your ancestoral national day?

Hmmm... well Halloween is quite popular possibly because many Americans burned their empathy at the stake about 11 years back... but seriously, St. Patrick's and Cinco de Mayo are pretty much nation wide and plenty that aren't of those cultures imbibe... erm celebrate on those days. Here in Texas there are many places that mostly Germans and Czechs set up residence so those communities often have some festival or so involving those heritages. In the Appalachians there are predominantly Scots-Irish and you will see Highland Games and such in some places there... maybe even find a few cans of Irn Bru here and there.

Well, I have a lot of Canadian French and Native American 'cuz I guess back in the French/Indian war not all my ancestors were fighting. But I'm also a big mongrel mix of English, Scandinavian and a few other things so I'm not really sure which ancestor day to follow so I usually just make some up.

I just celebrate the Ireland stuff. I'm not Irish but there's corned beef and cabbage and also Shamrock Shakes here.

I am almost all Irish. So is my wife. I am Catholic and she was protestant but converted. I told her her family really F-ed up back in the 1600s and I am their penance.

I wore a green polo shirt yesterday at a big event. It was noticed but there was a lot of green there. I have the M222 DNA marker which makes me a decedent of a specific clan that had real power back in the day and someone name Niall of the Nine Hostages who was born in 380AD even though there is a possibility that he was a myth. Trinity College in Ireland did a whole study on this DNA marker. There are a few million men like me with this lineage.

St. George's day is 23 April, but I've never celebrated that.

My ancestors came from several different countries. I don't have an Ancestral Day.

I do celebrate St Patrick's Day, since a small number of my ancestors came from Ireland.

I don't think we have one for Poland. Casimir Pulaski Day is the closest, but it's only an official holiday in Illinois. And some cities in the northeast celebrate Świngus Dingus. I probably would if we had one

Yes, Columbus Day is a holiday celebrating Italian explorer Christopher Columbus who discovered America. I celebrate it every year.

I'm not American, but I like Celtic tradition (including Irish), and I like Chinese New year celebration too.

I like St Patrick, he goes back to Roman times. It's always been fascinating to me how Britain turned into England.
