Thanksgiving is a harvest festival to give thanks for the bounty of the Earth.
It has nothing to do with genocide.
The first Pilgrims got along well with the Wampanoag tribe. That tribe essentially saved the Pilgrims from starvation during their first harsh winter in Plymouth Colony.
The "first war" generally refers to the Pequot War which was initiated by the Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay colony, who arrived later, due to growing tensions as they expanded their settlements into Native American territory, causing conflict with the Pequot tribe; this conflict primarily stemmed from the Puritans' desire for more land and the disruption of the Native American way of life as they encroached on their territory.
Those Puritans broke treaties and tried to exert their own laws over the Native Americans. But that had nothing to do with the original Thanksgiving.
I dislike both political parties but, as a life-long Democrat, have come to hate modern Democrats more. The only think I agree with them on is the right to abortion.
I have what I think of as 1960s-70s liberal values.
I love Thanksgiving.
The pilgrim element hallmark bs twist wasn't till the early 20th century. So it's not even that political to begin with. It's just a season change celebration for the harvest.
This is about as good as food gets let's fucking eat. Then winter is rough dark seasonal depression. Do it again with a good dinner for just after winter solstice darkest day of the year. Sun is shining brighter and brighter everyday and before you know it spring is upon us.
Do they even do the pilgrim stuff in school anymore? I get the Turkey hand thing thats timeless. I'm talking black and white clothes with a buckle on the hat goofy stuff.
For my alaskan native family from the village they love to feed people. So Thanksgiving and Christmas is happy family gathering.
I think it's just a a very nice Sunday in the American calender to give thanks for another year with friends and family which is beautiful and remember maybe past events like the pilgrims struggling and how they were given help. It's a very White Anglo saxon Protestant thing and I do enjoy it and it's a nice day b4 the Christmas holidays but it's not just white Anglo saxon Protestants but American catholics, African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans so it's a very long standing cultural tradition. Not sure what the problem is with it
We have our own version up here, I do think it’s pretty sad that theirs an annual celebration of colonization effectively. Like we probably should have figured what you were about when you paid back our food with smallpox blankets.

You take a holiday devoted to giving thanks for our blessings, you morph it into a horrible day, and then try to divide people on the basis of political beliefs. THIS is PRECISELY what is wrong with out current culture, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
It's a harvest festival for gratitude. I can put my politics away for a few hours but if you bring it up first you'll get a kind guide to some other topic. Persist and expect a truth bomb on your MAGA ass...
I'm MAGA for this question? Lol? wasn't it the leftists who declared War on Thanksgiving AND Christmas?
It was directed at people around my table at Xsiving, not you
Lol... alrighty then
Yeah, people should remember this when they go to a Thanksgiving buffet at the Indian casino. You do know that the natives showed the settlers what to eat & shared food with them for the first Thanksgiving, right? And in many parts of the country natives and settlers got along just fine.
I don't celebrate the genocide. We gather as family to be thankful for each other and the things we are grateful for. We remember history for what it is. We know we can't go back in time, and that was ridiculously wrong, but we can learn from history and try to be better. Hiding the past or pretending it didn't happen isn't respectful.
Go back to a school that is not illegally indoctrinating kids. Thanksgiving actually is based on a feast where pilgrims and INDIANS came together. The pilgrims over a period of time picked up a few SAVAGE traits from the INDIANS. The rest is history and tradition.
I personally enjoy a few candied Indian fingers with my turkey.
What woke joke is this?
Love how your shoving 100s of years into one celebration day.
Today we celebrate conquering the West!
Pass out the small pocks blankets
Learn who was native to north America when and how many times it was taken by other tribes from other regions and you will be even more confused than you already are! And your very confused now, so much so that you have no qualifications to be lecturing and accusing anyone of genocide as if you are exempt from the very thing you so gleefully accuse others of genocide!
Exactly who is the, "you" that you're referring? Maybe the correct word could be We!
Thanksgiving is about the Native Americans saving the puritan communist from themselfs. It has nothing to do with the plagues they didn't know was happening.

Not a US citizen, so no, I don't celebrate it.
Yup, we celebrate conquering the Indig. Here's the historical bottom line: If you don't want to lose your shit, don't be conquered.
I have zero sympathy and certainly have no guilt.
Thank God the Native Americans were stuupid and sold Manhattan Island to white people for a single piece of beads.
That's a good thing. I should burn a native American voodoo puppet in my garden at Thanksgiving while playing Ride of Valkyries.
Thanksgiving is as American as apple pie. It is one of my favorite holidays
I don't think the conflict between the settlers and the nativies in the 17th and 18th centuries was particularly political. But yes--Thanksgiving is an AMAZING holiday to celebrate!
You were foolish when I met you and you're foolish yet!
bro i don't even eat meat or turkey lol i don't care for it and everyone sounds so fake at the dinner table.
i voted no - maga
So since it was genocide with nothing positive, you should renounce all western technology and go to live in a cave on a mountain.
It’s a harvest festival, some variation of which exists in pretty much every society. The mythology of Thanksgiving is just that, a myth.
"Stop politicizing every god damn thing" should be a fucking option
bro keep on pushing this shit. you and all your friends. sooner or later people will become immune to this woke virus. just keep exposing people to it.
Its not tho?
It was a literal feast between Natives and Colonizers. Comraderie
hell yeah! I celebrate it twice as hard now that I know it makes liberals crawl into the fetal position and cry in the corner.
Yes I celebrate Thanksgiving
Sometimes a meal is just a meal
1. No its not.
2. Yes I do.
That is not what is being celebrated. Ffs
How was it about genocide?
