This is a good question

Because it has had me so pissed off at moments in time

I just started being a caretaker not too long ago for my mom she has Alzheimer's dementia

She moved in with me
And for a while I could go to work everyday and things seem to be okay

And day by day by day she started getting worse and worse
And I had to start staying home more
My home phone would ring and I would listen to her as she answered it and things just didn't sound right
So I listen to her a few times and she was giving out her information over the phone

I can explain to her she cannot do that blah blah blah well it got to the point to where I had to call my phone provider

I was getting over 70 phone calls per day spam scam telemarketers it doesn't matter they were calling over 70 a day

I asked them what I could do about it I wanted to change my phone

But at the same time I've had that same home phone number for 30 years I think

So what I had to end up doing is blocking all calls that come in except for people that I know

So now I've added the phone number for all the people that my mom knows and that I know to my home phone so they're the only people that can get in

But I still get at least 40 calls a day from telemarketers the phone will ring one time and then it blocks them but even that one phone ring still pisses me off LOL

But whether it's 70 phone calls are 40 phone calls it doesn't matter

And whether the phone rings one time or 10 times it doesn't matter it still pisses me off and it should be against the law

Usually just hang up, but if I'm bored or in a stupid conference at work I'll see how long I can drag them out. I love the people that say my SS# is being revoked if I don't pay with itunes cards or something. My record there is keeping a guy online for 2.5 hours. I'd convinced him that i was this tin foil helmet guy living in a van and had converted ALL my money into itunes gift cards because those and bullets would be the new economy after the fall of the republic, that I had to change locations frequently "because of the drones" and I only had a flip phone because "smart phones control your mind with viruses like covid". I finally told him I would have to actually MAIL him the gift cards because I wasn't typing in all 50,000 of them that I need him to liquidate and convert into bitcoin and GME stock (Rise of the Player!). We kept "getting disconnected" but he had to say a code phrase (I'm a little teapot short and stout, this is my handle this is my spout) when he called back so I'd know it was him and not a clone sent out by the men in black to fool me so they could probe me again and put me in the dark place. He complied every time because I'd just shout "CLONE WARS CLONE WARS!" until I heard him start singing... usually after a big sigh. When he wouldn't give me a mailing address I drove out to the airport to get appropriate background noise for about 20 minutes and went to the counter and asked for "the fastest route to lahore." That's when he hung up on me. Lucky guess on my part.

It is hilarious. Also had a scammer from india do this and he was like "fuck you..." under his breath, it was great.

I talked with a bill collector lawyer at a hotel this year. He said that with Artificial Intelligence. You should not speak to telemarketers. Some are recording your conversations and with the help of AI. They can rearrange your conversation with them and use the recording for financial gain.

Usually if I don't know the number I don't answer unless I'm expecting something. If I do answer and can't understand the foreign accent or long pause I just say I'm not interested and hang up. Then I block the number.
