Would you rather go to jail/prison or mental hospital?

Scenario:

For whatever reason you have to spend a whole year locked up. You are given the option to select between getting sentenced to a year in jail/prison or accept getting treated as insane and spend a year in a mental psychiatric facility.

Would you rather deal with the sentence and go to jail/prison or stayed in a mental hospital?

I prefer the mental hospital. Like mentioned, meals are better and the facility is cleaner. It's wonder to have administrators and staff members caring about your well-being and helping you instead of being in a cold, punitive cell.

Depends on which mental hospital you go to. The one I was in they locked you in your room if you didn't want to eat and if you tried to eat, they didn't care that other patients were taking your food from you. They were allowing other patients to touch other patients inappropriately. They even tipped out my drink which was just coke because apparently to one staff member you weren't allowed to drink soft drink after 6pm you were only allowed to drink water.

One woman who was there was begging to stay because she said she wasn't mentally well enough to go home yet they didn't care and discharged her and I later found out she impalied herself on the fence

Give me the grippy socks, padded rooms and happy pills it would be a nice and welcomed vacation where do I sign?

If the courts give you a choice it really means you really unstable, but if you want to try jail go for it. It’s cheaper that way. I choose a mental ward at least I be back home in a year.

A hospital would very much be clean, quiet, safe, more comfortable, and have better food. It also,(at least typically), means it’s not the patient’s fault, so much less shameful.

Hospital food is not better. Its the same food that prisoners also get. At least in Australia it is.

Mental hospital for sure. Hell, right now I would volunteer to spend a year in a mental health institution.
