i was alive then but was a kid so dont remember much

I was born in 2002 so I'm not exactly an expert on the 2000's but my family was very conservative and we were kept away from electronic devices for years. We got a Yamaha PSR-2000 keyboard when I was 5 and that was the shit but other than that, none of our family had mobile phones, TV, mp3 players, radios, gameboys, nothing... we got our first PC in 2010 but I had to share it with 5 other siblings and being the youngest meant I always got shunted off and wasn’t allowed hardly any time on it.
But honestly, I'm so grateful for that! I got a proper upbringing that was full of real-life memories and unforgettable experiences. Doing simple shit with friends every day, exploring, fishing, playing sports, learning musical instruments, making huts, learning to hunt, and just getting out there and making our own fun and running around like every kid should.
Music was good too. So good. 2005-2010 was hands down the best pop era of the 21st century.
People cared way less about things that don’t actually affect them, and everyone was so much friendlier than they are now. Crime was much less of a problem. Racism was much less of a problem. Political correctness was much less of a problem. Everyone just got on with life and didn’t let other peoples problems bother them. In other words, people weren’t woke opinionated bitches and just got on with life.
Best years of my life- my childhood.
Social media was around but it didn’t rule society, it was mostly young people on internet forums and social media at the time. You could even find p*rn on YouTube back then as well… don’t ask me how I know that. YouTube was nothing like how we know it today. There were also a lot of homemade videos from other kids and teenagers, that was mostly what you would find if you were a child like me looking up kids stuff. I often used to look up Bratz songs and High School Musical stuff. I remember seeing some other kids “music video” on the Bratz song “so good” by creating a story with stick men on Microsoft Paint. We could get internet on cellphones but I remember it was super expensive and a luxury. It was a very common thing where you’d accidentally turn on the internet and have mini heart attacks in case you made your service provider charge you. My mum used to tell me it was a £ per minute.
Kids used to also play outside a lot more. You used to see other kids be in groups and just hang out independently a lot more often in your community. I’m sure the older generations will say it was more in their time but I’ve not seen kids be out so much since the 2000s. I used to be able to just get in to my cousins neighbours house through the back garden door. Her neighbour had never seen me but it wasn’t a big deal, my cousin then went in her house and her mum was just watching TV unbothered by our presence. That’s just how things were.
Society also wasn’t so sensitive back then and worried about being politically correct. There are downsides to that though, as a Muslim I have to admit that racism and Islamophobia was definitely more prevalent in the 2000s than the 2010s or 2020s so far. Although I do miss the humour in the 2000s and care free attitude. I could honestly write so much more but if I want anyone to read this I think I’ll stop right here
It was great. The internet wasn't as filled with lively drama over nothing. People didn't get offended as easily. Going to the circus was still a thing. I'm a gamer and Runescape was my favorite game. I still check up on it from time to time, it's still very much alive. There were terrorist attacks, fear of terrorism. Phones were crappy, meant for just calling, texting was possible but it sucked.
I wouldn't say that it was better back then, just different. But I must say, today people seem to get butthurt over everything. Defriending somebody back then was smashing an ashtray to the face, now it's removing somebody from a list nobody cares about. People playing games with the block button. Drama over nothing.
I’m a 90s kid. So I remember the low rise jeans, and the whale tails. Having cable internet was kind of a big deal and video rental stores for DVDs. Gas prices was 1.00. 9/11 and war in Iraq/Afghanistan. And teens didn’t wear thongs as much unlike today. I would see the granny panties/fullback panties always showing above the jeans. Victoria secret had their panties basically look like granny panties and Hanes panties were called “Hanes her way” and the waistband was scalloped not straight like now.

It was a lot different. There was no smartphones. The attack on the World Trade Center happened in 2001 and after that the whole world changed. There was a lot of anti Muslin sentiment and a lot of paranoia.
The first superhero movies came out and the music was not very good.
But... you should know. You're 106 years old.
Anyway, the truth is it wasn't really all that different from how it is now. We already had scourges like political correctness, the nonsensical 'War on Terror' was in full swing, there was a war in Iraq (now it's Ukraine), and we were already hopelessly dependent upon the internet. The first 'smartphone' came out in 2007 or thereabouts, and we've had them ever since.
A bit hectic cause of the war starting and the recession and the dot com burst… but very good for me cause I left home and got my first “career” job and became independent. Made a lot of new friends and had a slew of new experiences. Traveled the world and bought a house.
Wait… you’re 106! Do you mean the 1900’s? 🤔
2008 was the worst year when housing prices took a dump and builders had to auction their houses off. A lot of people got bailed out, except the people who were upside down in their home loans.
The Internet was still more primitive (I actually still had dial- up back then lol), people weren't as "tethered" to their phones either. Cartoon network was awesome in the early 2000s.
It was a fun chill time people were waaaaaaaaay more nicer on the internet as well..
I totally miss my messenger conversations with my high school friends and crushes..
Hotmail MSN messenger, ICQ, yahoo messenger and MIRC haha, the good old days, my neighboors used to wake up when i turn on my dial up internet and modem back in the year 1997, win 95 and the mouse of my computer always lagged if i don't clean it, especially when it catches a hair 🤣🤣
Oh my gosh Windows Live Messenger!! I didn’t include that in my opinion… dang it. Never mind
@Blitterflicker no worries, but in the year 2000 your were only 3, did you use live messenger when you were only 3 🤣🤣
I can tell you that in the year 1989 i was the strongest atari player and i was barely 4, no one could of beat me in that plane game 😂
@TonyMetal___86 Lmao when my mom would make a call and the internet would go off.. I hated dial up 🤣 I used to go on this chat thing called INVU and you could talk with people with characters and I used to kick all the people in the face and they would leave LOL it was funny they used act like it was really them and get offended 🤣
😂😂
The internet was so much taboo in the the mid and late 90's, for me when i used to talk with people from outside my country, i felt so strange and felt like i had a big family from all around the world especially in winter while it's thundering and raining and the internet went off and on, i went crazy especially if i was talking with a girl and she was into me and suddenly no internet connection, waited for hours till the connection comes back and when i log in again, everyone has left 😂
Personally my 1st love was on the internet and i have enjoyed it more than reality, maybe because i was only 15 and maybe the 1st time feeling loved especially by a girl who is a foreigner, not from my country, i felt everything was magical, used to spend so much time sending and receiving e-mails on hotmail 🤩
@TonyMetal___86 LOL I was a late bloomer I didn't even start using the internet until like 2005.. but once I learned how to use it in computer class I was on it all the time. Luckily I only had dial up for about a year and a half then we moved back in town and got regular internet lol
Yes I know it was like an addiction talking to people back then LOL I actually met my husband online I think because since I didn't actually know him I could be my full dumb self and we used to have so much fun talking with our group of friends.. I miss the old days 🤣
Well you must be thankfull, at least you're married now and had a husband from all these things, you haven't come out with empty hands 😂😂
2005 was shaping the internet that we know today, back when i used the internet in the mid and late 90's it was totally different, no youtube, no facebook no nothings, even if i had to download a song, there was a site called napster, we used to share songs with others, for example a guy asks who have this song, if have it and he have my song, we can share and download, just imagine all of this, i was a songs beggar 🤣🤣
@TonyMetal___86 Lmao I used to use Limewire got so many viruses from it tho 🤣🤣
If time travel was real and i was able to go back in time, i wouldn't hesitate to do it for a second because i was happier, a lot more energetic and my whole life was still in front of me and i was really happy and lived the best part of my life back then, everything was just simple and magical...
Believe me, it was like all these just happened yesterday, i look at myself now and i start wondering how fast the time have passed, i was just a kid yesterday and a teenager enjoying my life, everything was easy and now i'm about to hit 38, i guess that's just how life works 😏
@TonyMetal___86 too bad you’ve been alive that long and still can’t differentiate between the year 2000 and the 2000s. No idea how you’ve made it but congrats
@Blitterflicker haven't noticed, no need to be rude 😏
Internet was higher quality. Not watered down to the lowest common denominator. After 9/11, the tide started to turn. Deep seeded societal problems lurking beneath the surface started to emerge through cracks.
I was a teenager in the early 2000s. It was a much better time to be alive. The internet wasn't the echo chamber it is now and people weren't nearly as sensitive over the stupidest things.
Just happy to be alive and play video games. Life was good enough, aaand didn't have a plan to be anything but alive.
Game consoles, cable tv, PC's, internet... etc
Not so much different than now except that everything was big and heavy such as tv's, monitors and smart phones weren't available... etc
Also everything had a wire 😄
Have you ever driven a car at high speed over a cliff's edge?
The first few moments are thrilling.
It was much, much better than it is now, and don't let anyone tell you differently.
Life was a bit simpler. People cared about each other because of the attack on the twin towers. Everyone knew what their sexual status was
I remember people knowing what a real man and woman was, not this gender fluid bs.
It was very good, woke people didn't exist yet
It mostly sucked.
Why did it suck? 🤔
Don’t worry about it.
TERRORISM CHANGED EVERYTHING
Amazing
good times
It was cool
