Let's say I'm planning to label a pillow with a phrase and sell. How do I go about making sure nobody can sell pillows with that phrase?

You won't be able to. Just market it and sell it, and be vocal to your community about only buying from you/report someone who steals it.

But you're unlikely to have that stolen. Or perhaps more likely that phrase on a pillow already exists, so go ham.

Don't overthink yourself out of trying it out.

That would depend on the phrase. If it's already in common use you'd struggle to get it copyrighted.

There's always the legal copyright route, like going through a patent process but according to law the moment you create your own original work it is already copyrighted. You can always do what Etsy sellers do, clearly say that your work is copyrighted and can't be re-created in any way.

Legal copyrights, I don't know the requirements and don't know if you gotta pay but in pretty sure you do, I'd say do research on it
