10 month dog jumps every single stranger he sees. why?

he used to be off leash when we were outside and he loved playing with kids (really only chasing them lol) and people on bikes for about three months now we had to start putting him on a leash because he’ll hump people so much like they can’t come near him because he’ll try to hump them if we don’t push him in another direction. he always cries like screams whenever he seems another dog. why is he behaving like that? he’s a 10 month shih tzu

Poor training, and sounds slightly reactive ie chasing kids, bikes and losing his mind when he’s on walks. I would look into a trainer.


Does he know basic commands like sit, stay, and his name? How are his leash manners have you put work into having him walk calmly beside you or does he walk in front pulling you? If you have high value treats you can work on leash manners and keep him more interested in you as opposed to other dogs and people. Humping is generally caused by extra energy and no outlet. If you work on his training and curb it I would look into dog sports

he knows basic commands yes and when he walks he’s in front of me but not pulling, whenever i turn around he starts running to me crying because he’s scared i’ll leave him (i’ve never done that) he only pulls on the leash when he sees other dogs. my fear or him being around other dogs is that the male dogs started being more aggressive and he just sits there and cries if i don’t pick him up the other dogs will hurt him

Don’t pick him up that will give him little dog syndrome. I’d avoid dog parks since they’re a cesspool for poorly trained dogs and diseases. Look into puppy classes and a trainer and if he needs an outlet do training and if you’re interested in dog sports they’re loads of fun

Doctors first to check his hormone levels etc are normal.
Then potentially a behavioural trainer

the doctor says i worry too much and he’s just a young dog discovering the world. but like he’s behavior is not normal

i’ll give you that. he is my first dog and although i was able to teach him the basic i was not educated enough to teach him this because i didn’t even know it was something dogs did so often
