Do you ever find it difficult to follow conversations with very smart people?

Like they'll start talking and part way through the conversation it goes over your head and you have that moment where you are like internally thinking I'm too dumb for this conversation... Does that mean you're actually dumb?

Only when the person is very bad at explaining something in a way that doesn't require prerequisite knowledge. I believe that anything can be simplified in a way that the everyday person could understand. Even if the examples aren't accurate in a 1:1 kind of way, I believe the general idea can still be communicated.

my boyfriend is a very smart guy, he says things that make me blink twice sometimes. it's so cute when he rants and uses logic, and he tries explaining to me when i ask questions. im not dumb, but im not smart either. i just like learning from him and seeing the way he explains logic in everything, even in chess. it's a bit hard to understand but he explains in a way that i can understand so it helps

I was listening to a Jordan Peterson podcast and he started getting very philosophical and I realized I didn't understand anything he was talking about and the interviewer was keeping up with the conversation somehow and asking like follow up questions. I would have been having a complete panic attack at that moment lol.

We are big music geeks, and I have a friend that loses me when he gets deep into music theory. It is interesting but complicated.

I sometimes feel impatient when very smart people cannot follow ME, or when they talk about topics that are irrelevant, or not of my interests.

But it's ok. I can always talk with my dogs later on.
