Hyundai owns 33.88% of Kia. Kia owns up to 45.37% of various Hyundai subsidiaries. Hyundai is a larger company, but Kia has more control over them, than the other way around.

Hyundai doesn’t just own an automotive company, they own a steel company, they own a manufacturing equipment company, they own several automotive parts manufacturing companies, they own engineering companies, they own finance companies, they own sales and marketing companies, they own a logistics/shipping company, etc. All of those sub-companies help the larger business to run smoothly. Kia has major stakes in a number of those companies.
