I've only ever owned one Hyundai, and it was a steaming pile of shit from the moment I drove it off the lot. I had it for less than a year before I got rid of it at a $10,000 loss, just so I could buy something that didn't suck. I know plenty of people that have never had any issues with them, but you couldn't pay me to own another.

I know lots of friends & family that have owned multiple Kias, and have loved them. I've never owned one, myself, but judging from their experiences, I would say the owner satisfaction is quite high.

As a previous Hyundai assistant service manager I can tell you Hyundai’s need every bit of that 5/60, 10/100 warranty. They will stand by their cars but expect to have it in the shop often. If you get one be sure to keep official records of all oil changes/services and make sure to do your combustion chamber cleanings at the recommended intervals that your service team gives you. Those are needed for when you have to use that 10/100 warranty for a new engine down the road. And in my experience you’re more likely to need a new engine eventually then not. When I was at Hyundai we literally ran out of loaner cars because we had so many people waiting for a new engine.

Kia is basically Hyundai so I’d imagine their quality is about the same. But I haven’t worked with Kia so I can’t honestly speak for them.

If you want affordability and reliability I’d go Mitsubishi over Hyundai any day. I sold Mitsubishi for 5 years. They have the same warranty as Hyundai but don’t need it nearly as often. I also drive a Mitsubishi my self. I’m on my second one. My father is as well. I’ve personally seen Mitsubishi mirages go to 300k (one of my customers) the guy absolutely loved it. They ain’t worth a shit on trade in in the future and most people will talk shit. But I ain’t having car troubles and with Mitsubishi’s capabilities I’m never missing work due to inclement weather like others are. I drive with full confidence in my vehicle. As a former salesman of them and a current owner I’d recommend them.

I own a kia and love it. I always hear that they are cheapy cars but don't really understand why. They drive good and I've never had a problem with mine.

As far as fit and finish, driving dynamics and style (which is subjective), they compare well to a lot of good cars on the road, but they have had their issues with transmission and engine wear problems. I'd buy Japanese instead.

I think kia's are cheap cars I think Hyundai are a little better though. I've known people who've owned kia's and while they're a bargain price tag wise they tend to cost more maintenence wise.
I'll fully admit I'm rather partial to American cars. And believe me I'm thrifty! I'm going to try to save a buck where ever possible.
But I'm no expert here. I'm just gi ing you my opinion.

I am more inclined to Volkswagen. I have driven a Kia and Hyundai but i found Kia a bit better in terms of suspension. But everyone has their own opinion

In the 90s, these brands were no-nos and lemons. They've come a very long way and now produce much better cars. Hyundai is still notorious for being a design copycat, pissing off some fine German and Italian manufacturers and owners.

They're generic Korean cars. I think Fords are better.

They are unreliable but can be good cars if the previous owner took care of it or if you bought it somewhat new.

Buy a Toyota or Honda is my opinion on Hyundai and Kia.

My mum had a Kia for like 20 years. It drove till she sold it last year since she didn't use it any more. So Kia's are good.
