+1 yThey're not at all worth it! They're WAY too expensive and heavy, the batteries cost a fortune if you need to replace them (rechargeables only last so long before they need replaced) and you HAVE to burn coal in order to MAKE the electricity to power them so, what are you saving?
Besides, there's enough oil JUST in the American continent to keep us in gas for the next 300 years and ANOTHER load in Alaska to keep us in gas for ANOTHER 300 years!! And, as it turns out, CO2 is actually GREENING the planet!! There's a good bit of the Earth that USED to be desert that is now a lush rain forest type area!
Besides, if they were REALLY concerned about the use of oil, why won't they let us have Seth Meyers' invention of a car that runs on WATER? The run-off from it is WATER! Just collect that and put it right back into the tank! You could run your car for at least a month on just one fill-up!! He invented this back in the `90's!! As soon as he sold the idea to the government, they killed him and have been sitting on it ever since!! However, I'm told Bob Lazar has (or built) one, too.32 Reply- +1 y

+1 ynot really a fan, the concept of E-cars just postpones the problem of fossile fuels. Regual cars have a primary energy source while E-cars use secondary energy. Where does that energy come from? From the next coal power plant probably! Its like "I see no evil, so there is no evil". Same with the batteries, look at the huge silicium mines in africa, where kids work. Also these batts dont last forever, that'll be 15k for a replacement. And of course we have the charging... While super charging hurts the batteries (forcing you to buy a replacement even earlier) the normal charging takes forever. Also here in my town we have a couple of official charging spots, sometimes the network is overloaded so the provider decides to shut one of the charging stations off (even if your car is still hooked on, so it was all waiting for nothing). People talk about private solar panel charging stations... yea right, but you wanna go drive to work in daylight and your car is only at home at night when the solar panel does nothing. I could also start with the poor distance one charge brings you...

- Lifetime of batteries too short, most batteries lose 50% capacity in first 3 years
- lack of compatibility between battery Cells, standardization would reduce battery repair/replacement costs immensely
- Fast loader infrastructure and power network at most places isn't ready for millions of electric cars.
- electric car range too short for people who drive a lot in their jobs00 Reply

They will never have enough charging stations without more coal fired electric plants. Another Biden fantasy.

@Bricealan And how much did they ding you for with that setup? And how much does it cost for new batteries? Where are they getting all the toxic stuff to make these batteries out of too? Do we have to import that stuff and is it sustainable? Or if shit goes south will we have a bunch of 2-ton yard decorations?

@daniela1982 I don't have an answer for your good questions, with exception, the set up was pricey. The Tesla has 100,000 miles on it and the battery is performing line new.
Keep in mind, too Daniela, that the lithium battery is being used just about everywhere, in the NEW electric bicycles and even lawn mowers. All of my yard tools are lithium battery powered. - +1 y
@Bricealan Yes, but how much lithium is there in the United States? Just as we have to import oil, we would have to import lithium. And in a crisis we may get none. I know in my few lithium battery powered tolls. They go bad after awhile or don't hold a charge as long as they used to.

+1 yI really don't like how computerized they are. Even some of the door handles are electronic. I don't like that they can be accessed remotely by the manufacturer. Thats a whole can of worms.
But the biggest issue I have with electric cars: they're ugly. They just don't look nice. The Tesla sedans do look pretty sleek but that SUV and especially the Cybertruck? My god. The Mach-E doesn't even resemble a mustang. Its just another generic shaped crossover. The electric Porche just looks like any other Porche and all Porches look the same. If they made electric cars look like cars from the 40s, 50, and 60s or even the cars from Fallout or Cyberpunk, they'd be flying off the dealer's lots. There's just no imagination or excitement in car design. Even gas cars. They all look bleh.10 Reply- 365 opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic.
m +1 yThere are some pretty awesome products on the market (Mercedes), but way too expensive. I would like to get an Honda e, which has a cool exterior/interior design and a good price/performance ratio, but I don't really have the need.

+1 yBetter then petrol cars, need to make sure the batteries work and charge well and are durable. They also need to be less expensive. If we are gonna ban petrol cars we need to work more on electric cars.
Here in the UK we don't have enough of them or charging points.

+1 yI don't think we are quite there yet with the electrical infrastructure, to go "all out" with electric cars. The other thing that you never hear about, is that they are 25-33% heavier. So with that you have more safety issues plus needing more energy to power the vehicle.
00 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. I really wanted them to succeed because there is a lot of advantages to an electric vehicle.. but I do not think that the laws of physics can be bent enough to make it a viable alternative to a gas powered vehicle.

+1 yHaven't driven one. There not the infrastructure in place for them for the most part. I could probably live with one most of the time as most journeys are local and I could charge on my drive. But wouldn't trust them for a long journey
10 ReplyI love them, I have a Model S - Tesla... best car I have ever owned. I will never buy another ICE car, and would encourage everyone to go electric

+1 yGenerallly a good idea, however if they are built as huge as they are now they don't do anything good for the environment.
10 Reply I've thought about it for a second car, have 1 traditional one to just get in and go and an electric one for every day use.
The range is better now.00 ReplyNo thank you. The problems and causes of those problems outweigh the positives in my opinion. Especially if one catches fire.

+1 yThey’re all but hype. I’m a car fan, but I’ll take hybrids or all-gas cars over all-electric any day.

+1 yI don't think battery technology is there yet. The solid state battery shows promise, but it isn't ready yet.
Hybrids are the best bet now.00 Reply New technology so kinda expensive but they'll be good in some time.
00 Reply309 opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. Electric is not the ideal power source for motor vehicles. Gasoline is the second best fuel source. With hydrogen being the best.
