Do you know what it takes to save yourself in the wild?
Do you know the plants that can help you save yourself or your friend in case of need?
Do you think we all should be better equipped for survival On our own?

Maybe.
Rule of 3 for Survival:
You can't go 3 minutes without air, you can't 3 hours without maintaining body temperature, you can't go 3 days without water, you can't go 3 weeks without food.
Task order, and this aligns with the the 3 Cs and ABCs of first responder training, make sure you have a ready supply of air:
Leads to:
Maintain body temperature by finding/building shelter to get out of the elements. Location is very important for the ease of the next steps. Having a partner makes it easier to maintain warmth.
Find a potable water supply. On an island, you! ll have to find a fresh water source. Luckily, there’s tons of sand which are great natural filters.
Find food sources. The most effective is building traps in my opinion. But those requires substantial effort to construct. This is wear basket weaving and knowledge of a few knots and cords is highly useful. So will probably have to first become adept at using spears. A fire source will be needed to cook everything. Need to know how to build a fire. I’d be extremely hesitant to consume any flora or fauna if they were foreign to me.
I just hope to God someone brings a hatchet or machete. Or it is going to be a bitch hafting slated rock into sticks for cutting tools. Always carry a damn satellite phone or means of reaching outside world beforehand.
You can watch the Naked and Afraid series or Castaway for tips:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/OA1EcsNcxG8https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ge60M7-a1eoHaha, everything I know about that is just what I’ve seen on tv shows.
I know how to cut trees, baton wood, create kindling, start fires, etc.
But I’ve only done that, in real life, in a temperate zone.
Also, I had a match though.
I’ve never tried using flint rocks or building a friction fire.
I know how to hunt for clams and mollusks, how to identify where they are and how to dig for them.
I know how to cook as well.
I also know how to test toxicity and edibility of unidentified plants — but because I wouldn’t be able to quickly identify the local species right away, so I it would take some time to get familiar with my surroundings.
I’m an arts-and-crafts person as well, and I’ve built a bow before in the past.
With the right tree bark, I can try weaving that into bow string and build a bow — or at least a spear.
See, I understand the science, but I’ve never fully applied everything in real life — at least not in a tropical island environment.
But, I think I could manage.
It’ll just take a lot of getting used to.
Absolutely not… if I was dropped off with nothing but the clothes on my back I’d not make it for long. If an animal didn’t get me, it would be the bugs, and if it wasn’t that I might get sick from the water but then again I can start a fire with my glasses easy.
But as for food it depends on the terrain, I know nothing about scavenging. I have a high chance of poisoning myself unless there’s obvious plants I know. I’d give myself at least a week before I’d croak. I could eat bugs as a last ditch effort if I was desperate enough. (Doubt it)
I guess my chanses are slightly above average. My knowledge is mostly european forrest based though.
But lets me real surviving is mostly luck based. You can have the best knowhow that you can't use, if you dont have fresh water. And you can survive without skill if you have fresh water and enough coconuts if you are lucky. Also weather plays a huge aspect.

I'll never know unless I am placed in those circumstances.
if the resources needed are available, then yes.. I would be resourceful enough to survive for a while...
edit/update... never really that late to learn some tips and skills, lol
at least the theory
Yeah, I guess I can learn some things just in case haha
are you sporty? that improves chances
do you do meditation? that also helps...
are you stubborn? that can help a lot, lol... determination
but, more than anything... it would be our will to want to live, and survive... and go on, passion for life
I used to do some light sports, I am not too sporty
I do meditation sometimes
And I am very stubborn and persistent, I never give up 🤣
But I think that leads me to more trouble
I just wouldn’t know how to get food exactly, how to avoid poisonous plants and so on
have you ever done some camping?
I think the most important thing to learn how to... would be, to start a fire
I have done, but I was on a lookout whole night sitting by fire while others slept. cause I was scared of bears
It was a brown bear territory and we heard wolves howling at night.
lol (=
well, yes... that is a reasonable fear
I think fire should be one of the first things to take care of... and getting water would be second
food and shelter could be second... and also a stick, I would feel a little more safer if I had a stick
a brown bear would be a serious concern, no doubt...
Yep, and since nobody else cared other than me I was making sure fire would be on whole night
The real scary moment was when we had no more wood for fire and my brother and his friends went to being more, it was midnight, and the howling was coming from so close… I was the one staying by the tent and my cousins were sleeping inside.
My brother didn’t come for long and I was so scared, that something happened to him, because it felt like howling came from every side around us, I was about to get up and go to find him, and fhankfully they returned right then.
so you are brave as well... that's another helpful thing
would you ever trying and go camping like this again? with the same people, or a different group?
I am not that brave, I just love my brother 😂
And yes, I’d go, just a bit more prepared and well-equipped with more knowledge as well.
For me safety comes first, so I’d have to make sure I took all the necessary precautions
And I had a big knife too, so I was thinking I might have been of help to him if he was in danger.
exactly, yes... see, being willing to go back and try it again, but this time being more prepared, based on what you learn from the previous experience... this is smart
and it is also brave... bravery does show when it is needed, lol... courage does show up in the moment of need haha
Not brave just very protective of the ones I love, haha.
Oh, that night I was so worried about my brother, I could barely hold myself not to get up and find him, and If I did I’d feel pity for any wolf that would come across me on the way 😂
Does that scene exist in nature?
It depends on whether the island has a cold winter. That one looks tropical. I would if it had non-poisonous fruit bearing plants like Bananas or Mangoes and I had time to build a shelter from the weather.
Fire - 🔥 ✔️ (my primary element)
Water - 💧 ✔️ (my secondary element)
I think I have some chances :D
@msmissydc I think I should withdraw from the competition... :D
I would certainly give it a good go. I would live everyday as nature intended, naked as the day I was born. I think we should all have practise in survival skills though, never know when they could come in handy. I've watched cast away with tom hanks, so have a good idea lol 🤣
no. cause i hace asthma xD i never notice it thanks to medication... but without medication... I don't know if i can even survive long term.
If water and something editable were available and if I had some shelter and could stay warm enough, I guess I would survive for a while. However, I'm no survivalist.
I think the answer you seek is "no " lol
However, I managed to canoe to a deserted island like pic related, with sufficient food/water bottles and sunblock (to last me a day) and had the time of my life!
If there's no humans on the island there's probably a good reason and it's usually a lack of fresh water.
Depends on what is on the island and how big it is, you need to collect fresh water, vegetation to eat and fish plus you need to make shelter with some type of tools, a knife would be best tool to have. The movie Castaway was close to that
It's going to depend on the island. Some have no fresh water -- that would make it difficult to survive there.
I'd probably be ok for a while but I'm diabetic so it'd be difficult
I know what would help you, my ex was also probe to diabetes. what type of diabetes do you have?
I don’t know much about type 2 diabetes, is it related to weight? My ex’s dad had it and he was very slim.
Still is very slim.
I don’t know much about diabetes, but I know there’s a plant that produces insulin. Costus igneus.
Type 2 is usually linked to being overweight. I was atypical because I was in pretty good shape when I was diagnosed. Taking insulin makes it hard to lose weight because it's the hormone that promotes use and storage of energy. Unfortunately you can end up storing energy too effectively and you gain weight. The first place diabetics gain weight is around the internal organs - especially the pancreas, which is what makes insulin so you need more, which makes you put on weight, and so on.
I'll look into the plant. Insulin is expensive these days.
I'm dropping carbohydrates from my diet in January - not because it's a "New Year" resolution but just because it worked out that way. It'll help me lose weight, which will mean I won't need as much insulin, and hopefully I can build my muscle up to help use the energy instead of storing it 🙂
Together, we can do it. Seriously, teamwork does so much to help!
It would depend if there were adequate resources, and if I had the right gear.
I think I can survive as long as I can find some fruits to eat and survive. But it's a matter of how long. Indefinitely? No way. But for a month I am up for the challenge
Depends on what I have and what resources the island has
I could survive for awhile, but eventually...
My profession is about making boats.
I'd escape in no time :D
I think I could create shelter but finding drinking water would be the biggest challenge.
Yes I would , I'd like go to With Girlfriend
Lol
It’s not a vacation
I think alone is not possible but if we are 2 person's then we can yeah
If i had some basic supplies (mostly what comes on a pocket knife) i would be fine.
Depends on how deserted it is, I suppose. I think I could make a pretty good go of it.
Kind of depends on where it was, what food was available, etc.
I would probably fare better than most people but I'm no expert
I don't think so, unless i become like robinson crusoe and have this Friday guy with me 😄
I could do ok if I had an axe and a knife. Not sure about without those two items.
Sure, if the island had the necessary resources and I had a few items, like a good knife.
That would depend on the available resources.
I could make it
Though I'm no expert
I wouldn't survive.
I hope someone is going to keep me company.
Yeah, having a companion would be fun. 😍
I would survive, maybe even thrive.
@LaFemmeFatale_1 i think I will
Just like you not for long
Probably not. Hopefully I do better than expected.
No I'd die
Not alone😔
maybe
