How many of you are afraid to fly (in an airplane)?

I’ve been flying most of my life (my dad is a commercial pilot). Right now, I probably ave one flight a week. Although I’ve flown well over two hundred times, the fear is always there. On a side note, I have a friend on here, @Slingblade1126 that actually survived a plane crash! I hope he tells his story. How many of you have a fear of flying?

I have it kind off, not because I find the act of flying terrifying but because the landing so far in all but one cases has been torture for me. I have very sensitive ears and its like stuff is poking right trough them during the landing. The rest of the flight i'm fine, but due to the pain I avoid flying as much as I can.

It’s funny how different air pressure affects different people. My ears pop but just a little and that mainly on take off. My mom gets extreme pain! At times she would have tears in her eyes.

It also got me outright crying from the pain, I tried every method in the book to prevent it and nothing works. But my ears are very sensitive in general, you know those cat scare boxes to keep cats out of your garden that human's can't normally hear? I hear them and those things are insanely loud, probably easily 100 decibel and they don't advertise that at all, people think its merely an annoying sound. It actively hurts if I am to close to one of those to.

Its limiting for sure, everyone gets ear damage as they get older. Now I am 30 I have enough ear damage to be on the level of a childs hearing so its no longer overly sensitive but if a child can't handle it I can't handle it. So clubbing, flying, that kind of stuff is not possible for me. But at the same time I rather have that than being deaf and wouldn't want to get rid of it.

I didn't used to be, but the way Uniteds jets have loose parts making parts of the plane tear off and land in a teacher's backyard now I am afraid.

The check that type of plane and found several more with loose bolts.

I am going to die one day, but it sure as hell isn't because someone didn't tighten the bolts on a jet I was in. Tha is just ludicrous!!! ✈️

Yes! I just heard that this morning, now I’m scrambling, trying to get a flight home but the fear has increased!

I’ve never flown but this spring I’m going home to visit, so I’ll have to fly, otherwise I’ll spend to many days driving. Yes, I’ll probably be terrified when the comes.

No fear at all. I use my wife's companion pass as often as I can for tiny getaways together (4-5 times a year). My parents have a four seater, so I've been in that plane and other small aircraft as well when we visit them🥰

You would think I’d lose my fear after flying for so many years but it’s still just as intense. In my defense, about five years ago I was on a jet when an engine blew and last year we hit heavy turbulence on approach to Miami. In neither case was I in danger of dying but it scares the hell out of a person!

That does sound frightening. Can't say that's ever happened to me or her. I typically look at it as part of travel, and I think she's just used to it after flying so many miles every year.

I had such a phase for some time... every start and landing was a nightmare for me, but it came and then disappeared without any action from my side

I am not afraid to fly. I just hate the idea of long lines and cavity searches.

I actually look forward to cavity searches. When they’re done, I’ll even say, “Cool, you didn’t find it”!

Oh really. I never had fear of flying. I've seen some course in Europe with a therapist that helps you get rid of that fear.
