There are some similar tales about another place out from the straight of Gibraltar. However navigation back then was bit haphazard. It was also a time when civilisations were rising and falling, the changes to technology, the movement of Celtic peoples through Europe. Within ancient Irish mythology there are islands called Murias, Falias, Gorias, and Findias where the Tuatha Dé Danann came from. The first bit means Tribe, the last bit refers to the goddess, but there is also a Tribe called Danaan in Ancient Greece and tribe in Middle East called Dan. Mythology rather than actual history says they left Greece after some major event and went to Ireland. There they defeated the copper equipped Firbolgs with their Bronze Age weapons (firbolgs were in copper age and later peoples in Iron Age).
Mythology is different than real science and atlantis have existed since more than 12 or 13,000 years where civilizations weren't found yet, it was considered a stone age era...
The oldest found civilization or what it looks like a small civilization is gopekle tepei in turkey and it's estimated that i was built from nearly 12,000 years ago while atlantis have sunken from more than 12,000 years ago and the way it was described shows that the civilization was advanced, so it's a bit weird and mysterious, unless there was a missing piece in our history that we aren't aware about or before the great flood...
Well yes, hence I said mythology and not history. Atlantis is also mythology there is no historical evidence that it existed, only myths.
Advanced civilisation can be as simple as copper age tools to Bronze Age tools, even stirrups and agricultural changes can be huge advancements

It was the destruction of the Minoan civilization. They were based on the isle of Crete and advanced for an ancient civilization (pre-Greek & Roman even) They were destroyed by the eruption of the Isle of Thera as the volcano not only destroyed a colony there, but it caused a Tsunami that wiped out their capital on Crete. The Minoans were forgotten for a long time until archaeologists discovered them two thousand years later
Still it's different, there are some speculations about it's location...
I don't believe it was super advanced like you see in sci-fi but I think an island population hit by a natural disaster is plausible, land gets lots to the sea all the time.
If it was a civilization it means it was advanced for it's time because there was no civilization back from from 13,000 years ago except nomads and stone age tribes...
Now if Plato's description to the city is real than surely it was very advanced and even advanced to our present day...
Before all this, we have to know if this city was real or just a myth...
Near me we have the mythical lost city of Cantreâr Gwaelod. You can still see trees from 4500 years ago poking out of the beach which probably inspired the stories. No doubt people would have lived there. I think Atlantis was just an ordinary settlement and the idea of being advanced just an embellishment
No one ever mentioned it except plato, which makes it fall more into the mythology than reality
But wasn't he just recording other accounts? Stories can be passed down for centuries before anyone thinks hey I better write this down.
Maybe yes and maybe no, no one knows for sure...

I think it was real, I don't believe it was some magical kingdom of fish people or anything but I do believe that it was probably an advanced civilization that fell victim to some horrible natural disaster like a tsunami or volcanic eruption.
I mean we do after all have numerous things that point to it's existence like cave drawling's and other things.
Pots found beneath the sea surface, some scriptures on egyptian walls back in the pharaoes era... etc, but no solid evidence or 100% proof of it's existence...
Why do you think that it was an advanced civilization? Is it because of how the city was built? The way plato's had describe it and also because it's existence goes back to more than 12,000 or 13,000 years where civilizations haven't existed yet...
If someday they find it or find a 100% proof of it's existence than the whole story might be real but it will be a starting point to rewrite history and won't be the same as we know it today...
Yes. But there's also lots of submerged cities and roads around the world.
That's true but what makes atlantis special is that's it very ancient and was described as an advanced city, some say that the dawn of civilizations had started there and thr whole human knowledge was transferred from this city to the entire world!
HmmmâŠI donât think itâs real. But I donât think itâs totally impossible that itâs based in some kind of fact.
It might be...
Yes it twas
