They are very kind. Right now, It was raining and someone opened her umbrella to accompany me to my taxi. So sweet
+1 yYes. But this is too general of a question. On the other side of it, I've had somebody cutt me off in line at a cantine at the university I was working for a while back and the black dude wasn't even sorry about it! I've had people be jerks to me on the road, especially back many decades and years ago, when I was driving an old, junky car. I've had exes BLINDSIDE me with a break up even though they proclaimed/promised that they wouldn't leave me and that they cared about me and wanted to make the relationship work. Maybe they just meant at the time, oh lord lol. I've also had a few co-workers sexually harass me and another crazy co-worker (thank god I don't work for that company anymore) run around with SCISSORS and monkey around with the scissors unprofessionally. It was crazy. I didn't want to be a part of that but hey, I had to get a job to pay my bills!.. So I applied to hand out samples at Costco ugh..
But yeah, I guess for the most part, people are nice to me thankfully. They do stop their cars when I'm about to cross the street for the most part. I guess I just get in the way of some crazy nutjobs (wrong place wrong time type of thing).

Yes, people are kind to me. I can also think of exceptions, out in public, in stores, where some chicks have been really offensive and nasty, but I'll leave those out of this. Most people, especially people I know well, treat me very well.

1.3K opinions shared on Other topic. More so since I lost my leg. I get the "sympathy" kindness, which actually irritates the crap out of me sometimes. It's one thing when I'm in my wheelchair to open a door to help me get in or out of a building, but insisting on carrying my bags to my car - which I'm driving myself - when I'm up and walking around but wearing shorts (it's 40°C here) because I'm "disabled" just pissed me off!

I understand.
I used wheelchair too for the first month, also for some of my visits in hospital. I still have it at home. I used the elevator for “disabled” people even today on my visa extension visit to immigration bureau. It’s kind when people open and close doors for me, hold a car’s door for me and so on. But I can understand how it can get annoying to feel the sympathies of people. But I don’t think you need to think too much into it. You can think of it like “YOU helping them”. They’ll feel better about themselves when they say bye to you. They’ll feel like they did something good. So while unnecessary, you also help them. Look at it like they’re begging “Can I please be useful today?”, they feel useful to be needed or helping, and while you don’t need it, I don’t think it comes from their sympathy rather than their willingness to feel happy about themselves. I’d not take it as a sign that they see you as incapable of doing something. However, I understand- Because I also often have to say “I can do it myself” - and they are impressed about it usually but I like impressing them too. You can have fun with them carrying your bags and have a friendly chat maybe? Or you can tell “thanks, I can do it, but it’s very kind of you.” I can see how it can get tiresome though.
But it was something so heart-melting that she came to me and covered both of us under her umbrella for 300 meters, it really melted my heart. I want to be able to be kind to people and help them too, once I am back walking.

I understand you… Really.
Let’s look at it this way…
Holding umbrella is not very enjoyable, right?
So, you disregard your discomfort to be a gentleman to a woman.
Now look at it this way,
It’s discomfort for you to have someone carry your bags. But you disregard this discomfort because you are a gentleman.
So, looking into your past, let go those experiences as you being a gentleman or a decent man, making other people feel good.
In future, kindly let them know you prefer doing it yourself.
by the way, you’d have no sympathies from me, I’d let you carry my bags if you’d wish. 😄😄 - +1 y
I don’t think you’re disabled at all. You’d be disabled if you lacked a head 🤣
- +1 y
Or when they offer to carry your bags, you can tell them, I’ll let you carry my bags, but then, I’ll have to carry you, wink wink hehe
- +1 y
Never thought about it being uncomfortable for me. It's just what I've always done - mainly because I'm a big guy I guess.
I'm certain I'd be very happy to carry your bags.
I've been accused of missing a few screws but my head is still attached so far.
In my 20s I actually carried a girl who told me she'd only let me carry her bag if I carried her too. Her friend told me she was a bit up-tight about being independent. Carried her about half a mile in the dark on Dartmoor. We've been friends for 30 years now
3K opinions shared on Other topic. I live in a city. Most people here are not kind. 🤣

lol what! I was born and grew up in a capital city and live in the biggest city of China now, people are still kind.
If they are not kind, I make them act kind 🤣
It’s not about the city. 😝
But yes, I had summer holidays in a village of my grandparents every year by the end of school and people were much kinder there. - +1 y
All this “city” thing away though…
I am sorry if they are not kind. May I know how are they unkind in a day to day life?

+1 yJust how general can this question get? In general, people tend to be less and less kind towards each other, so the answer would be "no" (though some elderly people tend to show an occasional, random act of kindness). However, people from my social sphere are sure kind to me, as we depend on each other and thus do our best to live on friendly terms with each other.

+1 yYes but it saddens me sometimes that "some" of them are just trying to be a Simp rather than being genuinely kind cause they don't treat others the same way

+1 yUsually, these days. Not so much when I was a kid.
I've done the umbrella thing a time or two, too. I was waiting for a bus on a rainy day and noticed this Oriental girl standing there with no brully so, I moved next to her to include her under mine. She thanked me and we saw each other again a few weeks later and she gave me a gift for being so nice to her that one day. I never saw her again.00 Reply

+1 yIn general they are. Though once in a blue moon some folks just tend to get on your nerves. They might not intentionally want to be mean, its simply their character and personality, which comes across as being cruel.

I try to, and usually am, kind to people unless they act mean and/or hostile towards me (and sometimes even then).

Yes and no. Majority of the time people are nice. But I assume this is because people are supposed to be nice to people they don't know. I'm at a point in my life where I just want the truth. Like be mean if that's how you genuinely feel. YK?
