Well, it depends. Modern striker fired pistols tend to be a little less lubricant dependent. They need it, but very little is required. If you skipped a few weeks probably nothing would
Come of it and they are nearly rustproof.


Contrast that with a Beretta 92FS or 1911 and you’ll see a lot more lubricant is required so in the end and they are less tolerate of rust damage. Id strongly suggest you refer to your manual of arms and adhere to that faithfully particular if you carry it in a life preservation capacity rather then for simply sporting, competition, or recreation. Plus a safe queen in its case, in a safe with humidity control, is probably good for a once a year wipe down but your EDC probably deserves more.


My old employer had signs up which reminded us to lubricate our Berettas every two weeks with the frightening and extreme warning ‘…or you may die.” Probably not really necessary but it did pound into my young mind the need to stay on top of weapons maintenance.


Also, WD40 damages guns and is the kiss of death to ammo if it penetrates the primer and compromises it. I saw a guy have one dud and one squib round with a bullet lodge in his barrel behind this. Luckily the Rangemaster we had was sharp as a razor and actually saw this and called a cold range before he could send a second bullet into the previously lodged round.

WD-40 will mess up your gun. It can eat away at it.

I lube my firearms every time I clean them. I clean my firearms after every single range visit.

If I go a long time without going to the range, I clean and lube my firearms once a month.

You do not want to use WD-40 on firearms. Use gun oil, which is easy to find. If you can’t find that, you can use sewing machine oil.

WD-40 is a bit too lite according to my old range officer. Try "liberal tears", an excellent gun lubricant.

Also, when you like your firearm, sores the lube on, let it soak for a few minutes, than wipe as much OFF as you can. The firearm should look dry when you are done.

Wd40 isn't a good lubricant for firearms. I like rem oil and hoppes. How often you clean/lube your firearm depends on use and storage.
