If you had to pick dvd or vhs, which one would you pick? and why?

I just can't resist the allure of that classic VHS smell - there's just something nostalgic about popping in a VHS tape and being hit with that familiar, pungent aroma. It's like a trip down memory lane, with a side of nausea, you know, a mix of moldy cheese, stale urine, and feces on the floor after you just watched your first porn.

But let's not forget about DVDs, Shall we? They do have their benefits - like no more rental fees and the convenience of fast-forwarding. However, they just don't have that same olfactory experience as VHS tapes. It's like watching a movie without the smell of decomposing flesh in the background.

DVD for sure. I used to work part-time at a VHS rental shop when I was a teen and I have a nostalgic love for VHS tapes to some degree. Still, it's not fun constantly rewinding and fast-forwarding and dealing with cleaning and degrading picture and sound quality.

Not Blu-Ray mind you. Man, that technology went nowhere.

Blu-Ray, and UHD Blu-Ray (i. e., 4K Blu-Ray) are excellent technologies that work amazingly well. Just as CDs are amazing audio technology that work amazingly well. It's just that the average person is happy to sacrifice picture and audio quality - as well as space and convenience - and would thus rather stream content than buy it on a disc that they have to store and physically touch.

If streaming didn't exist, Blu-Ray would be HUGE - like DVD was in its heyday.

I suppose the good news is that average Internet speeds will eventually allow full UHD Blu-Ray quality streams - though that doesn't necessarily mean that the studios will offer that level of quality, even though they could (they could do it today, but many people don't have connection speeds to allow it, and it would have to come with an added cost that many people don't want to pay).

The BIGGEST reason for Blu-Rays is CONTROL. The studios are constantly editing, revising, and removing existing titles from streaming, and you're going to see more of that going forward, not less. They can't come change your Blu-Ray, or remove it from a service you paid for. Sooner or later, a movie YOU love is going to get hacked up because someone with a political agenda doesn't like it, and if you don't have an original Blu-Ray, you'll have to live with the hacked up version on streaming.
