How is DVD better then VHS?

While analog doesn't have a true pixel count, VHS is roughly equivalent to a digital resolution of 513x384. DVD is 720x480 resolution.

VHS is limited to stereo audio. DVD supports 5.1 surround sound.

VHS is magnetic tape based, and tape degrades with use. DVD is read by laser, and quality is identical even after thousands of viewings.

DVD is physically much smaller than VHS.

DVD allows near-instant access to any part of the content. VHS has to wind the tape, and has to rewind at the end.

There are no real advantages for VHS beyond compatibility with lots of old VHS tapes. Even the ability to record - the original selling point, can be done with DVD.

Clear picture, More room for data space to hold more than one film, and can reach to anytime of length of a movie or settings.

My favorite is the instant rewind. VHS took a while.
