Do you have a ring outdoor camera?

If you have such a device does it do you any good? I have several of them around the perimeter of my house as do many of my neighbors. These are really useless devices in that the cameras are of very low quality, and even when they get a picture of an intruder into your yard or the area around your house, the local police are completely uninterested and inevitably the person's face is unrecognizable because of the poor quality of the pictures. The camera also doesn't seem to scare anybody off. I'm glad I didn't spend too much on these things. If you have one, what do you think of it?

Yes I have 3 ring motion detector flood light cameras and a doorbell camera. I think the picture quality is very good. The camera by my driveway let's people know that they are being recorded. The light itself doesn't deter people, the camera does.

I'm an electrician and I have installed hundreds of the ring cameras. Everyone loves them. Maybe your camera is too high or it's not set up correctly and that's why the quality isn't good

Thanks for your response. It's a poor camera, primarily because the lens is not very good picture quality. It's terrible as a result.

I am not sure of the model. However, even with a good picture, what is that good for really? The local police won't come out or take a report for much of anything.

Our police are always asking people for videos from ring devices. I can see all the way down my street. I can read license plates, name tags on people's shirts.

I'm thinking you might have the older version spotlight camera.

Its a doorbell camera, probably pretty old. The cops here basically only catch shoplifters.

Oh ok. The older models didn't have the good quality pictures because they were new. Quality has improved so much over the years. It might be time to replace your camera. You'll be surprised at the difference in picture clarity

Thank you but it really isn't useful enough for me to spend money on a new one which would be equally useless. The police don't care about the sort of stuff this camera picks up. Not where I live.

The Floodlights have an alarm on it. I've seen videos of those scaring intruders away due to the noise. But you could always look for a Ring competitor that is better quality.

@Truthatanycost I've tried other brands and found ring to be the best quality. The newer models have excellent clarity.

I do not have one. I used to have a high end camera that I brought home from work. When I left they made me give it back. This camera let you read address labels off the packages left in my back porch

Do you happen to remember the make of that model?

It was a Cisco. It is not made anymore and I cannot remember the model number. It was a PTZ camera.

There are lots of good video cameras on the market. Look at the resolution it should be 4K. The real high end ones are 8K. There is tons of info on the internet. Between 100- 200 dollars for a good PTZ camera.

Yes I do have one on my garage to see whoever pulls up or drives by. Also so I can see if my husband is home. There is no window in that direction so impossible to see out there without it

no, that's my opion of what I've seen online. useless. only as a notification there was a theft or invasion.

Yes, we have one. My SO uses it to check up on when I walk our dog when she's away. It's also useful to know when a package gets delivered. TBH, we didn't get it to scare people away, but it does provide some record if something does happen.

in Mexico... there's this net of them called C4, so, depending where you live... your personal surveillance becomes part of that network and actually work for something

I think it is helpful to have security cameras this day and age sad thing is the power goes out and you get knocked off line what’s your second line of defense a fence
