I don't know. These seem like some potential contributing factors-
Sadism (attempt to cause more intense pain by first raising comfort)
Narcissism (in a love-bomb stage to get you roped in)
Sociopathy (to get your stuff)
Fear of being honest about not caring (self explanatory)
It's important to know that caring might involve no contact or a hiding of positive opinions, for the sake of protection. People can be real nasty.
