well, yes... I've been a tutor for about 20 years

and I've done it without a fee for most of it (exception was when I had to move and travel to remote areas, they paid expenses) and well, it wasn't about cost but sometimes, some teachers and some schools cannot afford to provide a more proper education... so that's where me and others like me would help to fill the gap there

If they showed enthusiasm in a subject I'm very knowledgeable about (CompSci, e. g.), that's my biggest dream. I might have to ask my wife to make room for a new guest in our home. I want to teach him/her everything I know. I have an almost desperate desire to pass down everything I learned.

I even invented a new data structure that people mid-way in answering the Q that people are using now in their games and other projects. I really think there is a way to teach CompSci that doesn't have to be so logical, more subjective, more intimate, fun even. And I have a Siggraph award to show for it. I'm not just someone with a big ego and nothing to back it. I set a new precedent in computer graphics and entirely on my own, no team behind me, and that's also how I broke into this industry. I have so much I want to teach now with over 35 years of programming experience.

I'm a bit washed up now, admittedly. So I no longer want to accomplish big things anymore. I'm too lazy now. I want to teach young and enthusiastic people how to do it themselves.

I think I realize there's some part of me that's done now. It is dead. I don't have energy for it anymore. So I need to teach other people to break new barriers now because I'm not going to do it anymore. It's a bit depressing but I am also so eager now to find my apprentice.

My time and resources and skills have limits and I believe I would be more effective and beneficial if I invested in other aspects of society but I do believe people who choose education jobs are offering an amazing service to the world.

It took me 14 years to get myself through college, then I had to get 3 kids through college. I think I have paid enough.
