It's certainly not a star. It's basically a cold, spherical rock, but it does have five moons.
It was discovered and classified as a planet in 1930. But it was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006.
It wasn't formed along with the rest of our solar system and its orbit isn't on the same plane as the rest of the planets.
Neither, - it's classified as a dwarf planet - it's smaller than many of the moons in our solar system, and clearly it wasn't originally part of the solar system but was later captured by our solar system - that's why its orbit isn't concentric or on the same plane as the rest of the planets. Much of that wasn't as well understood when it was originally classified as a planet, at the time of its discovery, but once you know more, it makes sense that it was reclassified.
Size is a poor way to classify stellar objects. It would make more sense to call all solid rocky spherical ones planets
Why is pluto a dwarf planet, but mercury is a planet, and titan and lua is neither? The naming choices are too inconsistant.
Even jovian objects like jupiter are called planets, despite being structurally more like stars.
@TheSpaceGnome I don't make the rules. Titan and other large moons are moons because they are in orbit around a planet rather than directly around a star. But, yeah, at some point Pluto was just a wandering planet moving through the galaxy before it was captured by our sun's gravity.
What are they gonna call 2 spherical rocky objects of the same size orbiting eachother? Because thats a thing. I still say naming should be based on what it is rather than what it does or its size. 🤔
Oddly enough they don't name stars based on size or behavior, only planets and moons.
At this point who even know cause Nasa keeps changing their mind every couple years. When I was growing up, they said planet then drilled into us at school: mercury, Venus, earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto like a song. Couple years after that, nope it’s a star.. okay cool. It’s a star.
Then 5 years later, “ops we made a mistake, it’s a planet. Y’all better remember that stupid song about the planets again” 🙄
A star. Or at least he used to be.

Pluto isn't quite a planet anymore. It's classified as a dwarf planet, which is basically a smaller round object orbiting the sun. It's still super cool and interesting, but it doesn't meet the criteria to be a full-fledged planet anymore.
As for planets & stars they come in all shapes & sizes & as for Pluto to me it’s still a planet & it always will be. Shame on the International Astronomy Union for declassifying Pluto as a planet & shame on the people who fund the IAU as well.
that pluto is a star!
@strateguy632
Nope
It is a Star Dog
What about this one:
@RebelinSteel they found a Pluto image on Pluto when they went up there
As I understand it, the planet was named after the popular Disney character which was new as well.

Neither its definetly NOT a star and its technically a dwarf planet but thats a thing of definition. So yeah kinda a planet just not a full planet. Its not a star!!!
Pluto is a star in Disney movies and cartoons.
As for the celestial body named Pluto, I won't go into whether it is a planet or not, but it is definitely not a star.
It's a planet... what 2 idiots think Pluto's a star? It's literally just rock and ice
both! the planet pluto is a planet because it is in the orbit of neptune, despite size small.
the other pluto is a star! in cartoons.
Neither.
Pluto is Mickey's dog...
It has been reclassified from a planet to a dwarf planet.
Its a planet. Your question would be more appropriate for gas giants like jupiter, saturn, uranus and neptune, which are physically more like stars than they are like planets.
Our Sun is a star. Do you even know what stars and planets are?
I was about to answer, but then I read the retarded replies.
Pluto has actually been classified as a dwarf planet. I prefer Pluto the dog though.
The Pluto haters need to chill, Pluto is. PLANET dammit.
Neither, it is has been changed from a planet to a dwarf planet
It is a planet. Only a fool would think it was a star.
It is a planet.
It's always been a planet to me!
Looks like a planet to me
Neither. It's a Kuiper belt object.
