How often do you service or oil change (properly) your car professionally?

By a mechanic or by an auto shop basically. Google search results says "apparently" every 6 months to a year (along with top ups, not to the brim not to all the way filled, duh, never to the brim supposedly either) anyways. Apparently. Some people lol probably go year (s) without proper car maintenance and no wonder things fail, wear out or even engine just dies before it's even lived lol, not that I'd know about engines or cars. I'm a simpleton who only earns trial and error. Lol. And Google search results and gossip.

My fathers had his present car for close to 3 years and had it serviced once... the previous owner had it serviced every year (just before my fathers purchase)

Pretty sure most of his earlier cars didn't get serviced once the dealership package expired on the first one I really remember
The others were used and only one might have been serviced when it was given an overhaul

The others were written off inside a year of being bought but were cheaply acquired

Mine only takes synthetic so I go for more than 3K or I'd be doing it every 2 months. 6 sounds about right, maybe more like 5.

Recently I was told by the Nissan dealership that with the switchover to synthetic oil, changing it every 6 months was OK, rather than every 3 months

Oh groovy, I like talking "shop" aka "so what do you drive, I don't drive anything but others cars aka family or friends if they let me lol" however - I do like cars to a degree and to a degree basics of car maintenance and gasoline brands oil brands aka fuel brands + like any consumer lol or "worshipper" of brands - what's yours? I like my Castrol's and my BP lol 💚 🛢️

I'm a bit of a fanatic on this, but I do mine every 5000 miles and do it myself. I've watched a lot of videos where they tested every major brand, the one or two that really surprisesd me though, the Pennzoil that is made from natural gas scored second only to amsoil, and the other that was a huge surprise was the Supertech from Walmart does really well considering the price. So best or best bang for the buck in my opinion, cand of course a really good filter.

How about when the oil sensor tells me to change it. Which is about 7k-8k miles. I run synthetic which is ok longer miles. Standard oil 3k-4K max.
It’s all about the miles and how hard the vehicle is used in those miles.

The 3000 mile rule is a myth. I would say once a year, like the dentist, is appropriate.
