Aside from cats or dogs, what kind of pets do you have or would you like to have?

I've always been into fish or an axolotl as pets, but I realize how hard they are to take care of. I suck at the cleaning of the aquarium and making sure the water is right for survival.

As an adult fish are the only pet that I've chose to have or will have in the future. They are low maintenance low cost don't have to worry about them tearing the place up or annoying or attacking my guest or the delivery guy like you do with dogs. They are too needy unpredictable stressful and chaotic. I Never have to tell fish to be quiet so it's all positives. To me they are the best if you're wanting to have a chill / relaxed atmosphere of serenity. Great stress reliever.

My son had hamsters, but they didn't live long.

I'd consider a bird if I didn't already have cats and a dog, but not a parrot or something that will outlive me.

Wally was the best pet I ever had. I paid a fortune for him, because he was hand-fed. That means when the egg hatches, they take the chick away from the mom and it's raised by humans. You can easily pay 5 times more for a hand-fed bird, but it's worth it.

They are as tame as a puppy. Wally was very protective of me, and knew I hated spiders. When Wally saw a spider crawling across the carpet, he would go and kill it, and then come back and sit on my shoulder.

But we had a problem. I specifically told the pet shop that I wanted a boy bird. It's well known that boy birds are the best talkers, and that's what I wanted. I came home from work one day, and there was an egg in Wally's cage. I figured it was just an accident. Then there were two eggs. Soon there were 20 eggs. I had to have a heart to heart with Wally and explain to him that boy birds don't lay eggs. :) I was duped, but Wally was a great pal.

Often even the experts get the sex of a bird wrong. We were also told that our bird was a male. But we too found otherwise by the eggs. Of course they are infertile, so no more birds, but we remove them every time we find them.

I don't have my own pets anymore, but I tried to have a turtle once when I was a kid, but my parents let it die after a couple weeks. 😭
So, I'd like to have a turtle again someday. 🐢

I've had quite a few pets, ducks, mice, hamsters, chickens and a crow as well as our cat and dog, I have always wanted a horse and rats though. Maybe one day

My parents had been gifted a pair of Mongolian Gerbils. Those are quite funny little critters. 🙂
