Don’t have it. People send me videos from it, but as of last week I can’t see them anymore. There’s some funny stuff I’ve seen but I don’t know why it needs its own app, that can’t be done on YouTube? I don’t know, not having most social media is probably the most “old man” thing about me (although even my 92 year old dad is on Facebook lmao), so I just don’t know what the hell is going on these days.

I try to live like it’s still the 90s as much as possible, that was the sweet spot. Everything at its technological peak just before it all became too invasive and seemingly addicting. Like I miss leaving my house, and if you wanted to talk to me, you just had to keep calling my house until you caught me at home. I wish the world was still like that, I hate these expectations of always being available…. but I’m ranting now, so I’m gonna stop, lmao.

But yeah, Tik Tok has its hits from what I’ve seen, but the overall problem with social media is that the average person is painfully unfunny and unentertaining, yet nobody seems self-aware of it, so a lot of content I see from there or otherwise, just these dime-a-dozen YouTubers and Tik Tokkers and Instagrammers and whatever else…. you just don’t have the talent, to be blunt. You’re nowhere near as good as you think you are, and it’s all just visibly amateurish, so you just look like a clown more often than not.

I suppose it’s a good non-traditional avenue for getting into entertainment, like you don’t have to do the whole Hollywood thing to be discovered….. but Hollywood does the ugly side of the job and weeds out the like 95% of people who just don’t have it, so we only see the curated talent. Tik Tok leaves us to have to be the talent screeners, yikes😂 Seen some good amateur stuff though, to be fair.

No, I thought the only thing Trump was good for would be to ban it then didn’t…. Then said along with the oldest members of govt that China steals innocent oblivious naive American citizens’ data to use for evil purposes… Immediately starts posting propaganda on TikTok like a crowd that doesn’t exist and cuts off right before you see the empty street he is waving at.

Tbh not really.. I've come across some of the most toxic views there either in videos or in the comment section (for example, yesterday I saw a video making fun of autistic people with thousands of likes). Also, there are a lot of echo chambers. If you ever happen to say something people don't like, or disagree with the creator of the video, they'll attack you, even if your original comment was fairly innocent.

I’m sure there are nice corners of it, but you have to avoid certain communities or don't read the comments.

It's great. Short form content that's enjoyable, and keeps me in the know whenever something new and stupid is trending. But i had to stop using it because it was so intensely laggy. Now I just watch YouTube shorts and Instagram reels

No not really tbh. It's ok for some videos. But it seems to have such an influence on people and then people do really crazy things bc of It. It shouldn't be around in my opinion. I feel like it's a huge time waster.
