It’s 3:30 am, I’ve been scrolling on tiktok for like 4 hours now. I just got to that “hold up! You’ve been scrolling for way to long!” video so I’m going to bed now lmao
The sides of tiktok that I’m mostly on:

skateboarding/roller skating
cats/animals
random/vine humor
gaming
torettes syndrome (for some reason)
dancing
singing/thearte
stand up comedy

Tbh I don’t understand how people say they don’t like tiktok lol
there’s literally accounts on tiktok for ANY interest, hobby, and topic. ANYTHING. If you can’t find any entertainment on there, I’m gonna just assume you’re a boring person. Give it a chance lmao

I don’t like the “famous tiktok” people. The teens who are just famous for their looks and mediocre dances. I don’t find that side of tiktok entertaining because I’m not a 14 year old girl.
I prefer the ones of people who are talented or who are funny. Or the ones that teach you something.
I have a friend who is OBSESSED with famous tiktokers and she’ll talk to me about them like “omggg Addison Rae is going through drama with the hype house” like bitch wtf is a hype house? I don’t care lmao

I don't like TikTok. Granted, I also wasn't much of a Vine person either when that was a thing. I think the issue for me is that I prefer longer videos as opposed to 15 seconds. I find more interest in YouTube. I get my dose of cute animal videos *cough* chubby seals *uncough* off there. (Plus, there are a decent amount of sketchy/cringy things about TikTok from what I've seen, not including the data-mining controversy) That, and I honestly just don't find dancing, a large part of TikTok, entertaining to watch. I always fast forward through dancing acts when they pop up on AGT (America's Got Talent) whenever I watch the show-- but hey, maybe I'm just a boring person. I don't use Instagram/Twitter/Snapchat, and I rarely visit FaceBook, so I'm somewhat minimal when it comes to social media.

By now, I have never really felt the need to try it. I wouldn't say people who didn't try this app are boring. Fun can be experienced in so many ways. Everyone prefers something else. I think they just don't need another place with videos of peple from all around the world doing random stuff. No offense, if you enjoy it, then use it and spend 4 hours scrolling through its content, but in my opinion, there are better things to do.
And please don't execute me for not liking the newest most popular way to spend leisure time. I'm a young and modern person with interests in many different things. I can enjoy funny videos like the ones on tiktok. Occasionally. And that's enough to me. I don't need an app full of them to fill my schedule. But, you know, everyone's different. :)

I'm currently on bug, skateboarding, tourettes, lbtq, alt, and frog tok.

I also find it really fun but also informative. There is tons of info on the blm, human trafficking, inhuman treatment of children in ice and history that the US fails to teach.

I really don't care if my data is being taken because it's taken regardless of which app I'm on. Honestly the only difference between other apps and tiktok is that those apps will be of the US and sell the info to China now China is just getting it for free.

Plus banning an app such as tiktok is censorship and on a huge scale. The banning raises big red flags for me because this app is full of politics and now the government is saying the app is "unsafe" when it's election time. Seems off

Maybe I’m just old but I’m starting to believe that all these apps are bad for people’s mental health. I also find it crazy that people use social media platforms like TikTok to inform themselves about political event. Especially, given that TikTok is mostly young teenagers, it’s very easy to see how someone can share information with young kids and kids won’t be able to distinguish between facts and propaganda. It is clear that the propaganda is working just by the fact that you’re stating that you don’t care if China has your information. I know when I was younger, I would have never said that I was ok with another country having my information.

I love TikTok! Like you said, there's something for everybody.

If anything tiktok seems to have the most supporting people. There’s a lot of accounts of kids with autism who have millions of followers and tons of love and support and donations from the followers.
And usually bullying and negative videos go viral with a lot of hate towards the creators and get shut down real quick. If your content isn’t PG13, it prettt much gets taken down right away

Tiktok is just a data collection app disguised as a social media platform.

There was a software developer who reverse-engineers apps from the source code to just check them out, and he found that tiktok is literally worse than Facebook and Google when it comes to collecting their user's data, and spying on them.

Really weird that it is even allowed in the US to be honest.

This isn't the first time that the TikTok app has come under fire for how it handles private data... The app, which has already drawing negative attention as a potential spying platform for the Chinese government, came under scrutiny for a number of shady practices.
Right off the bat, Bangorlol accused the app of being a "data collection service that is thinly-veiled as a social network." After sifting through TikTok's code, this is what Bangorlol found:

Phone hardware (cpu type, number of course, hardware ids, screen dimensions, dpi, memory usage, disk space, etc)

Other apps you have installed (I've even seen some I've deleted show up in their analytics payload - maybe using as cached value?)

Everything network-related (ip, local ip, router mac, your mac, wifi access point name)

Whether or not you're rooted/jailbroken

Some variants of the app had GPS pinging enabled at the time, roughly once every 30 seconds - this is enabled by default if you ever location-tag a post IIRC

They set up a local proxy server on your device for "transcoding media", but that can be abused very easily as it has zero authentication

Even more disturbing according to the analysis was that the logging activity is configured remotely, which makes reverse engineering and trying to determine what ByteDance is actually up to increasingly difficult. And it gets even creepier from there, as the redditor wrote, "Oh, there's also a ton of creepy old men who have direct access to children on the app, and I've personally seen (and reported) some really suspect stuff. 40-50 year old men getting 8-10 year old girls to do "duets" with them with sexually suggestive songs."

... And here's food for thought; Bangorlol alleges that reverse engineering other popular social media apps like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter didn't find nearly as much data collection going on -- there was absolutely no comparison.
He concludes his findings, writing, "tl;dr; I'm a nerd who figures out how apps work for a job. Calling it an advertising platform is an understatement. TikTok is essentially malware that is targeting children. Don't use TikTok. Don't let your friends and family use it."
